Mercyhurst Defeats Edinboro In Tight Defense Showdown
Mercyhurst and Edinboro met in a hard fought game as Mercyhurst's pressure defense stifled Edinboro, 61 to 52. Young powered the Lakers with 12 points as Don Lovett was held to four, while Ford and Hennings aided with steady inside play. Edinboro's stingy defense kept the margin close, but Mercyhurst pulled away late. The two teams meet again Jan. 25 at Mercyhurst Campus Center.

Pirates bow out on Eastwick bidding for free agent
Pittsburgh officials say they are unlikely to sign free agent Rawly Eastwick, once Cincinnati’s bullpen ace, after losing Gossage and Forster. Eastwick seeks more money than the Pirates will offer, GM Harding Peterson said at a luncheon. The club invited 23 year old Carl Morton to spring training and may invite 22 year old Dave Giusti, with Bruce Kison possibly moving to the bullpen.
