EWPORT BEACH Calif AP Sen Barry Goldwater sailed south aboard a borrowed yacht for what he called his final vacation before the November 3 presidential election. On the Sundance he arranged a ship to shore call with press secretary Paul F Wagner as reporters sought word on the Republican nomination.
A son was born to Mr and Mrs Marion Zaczkiewics of 110 East Congress Street early today at Corry Memorial Hospital. Mrs Zaczkiewics is formerly Trene Motus.
A requiem Mass for Raphael R. Donoghue will be celebrated at St Thomas Church Monday at 9:30 a.m. Interment follows in the church cemetery. Friends may call Bracken Funeral Home Saturday 7–9 p.m. and Sunday 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. Rosary Sunday evening.
BEDFORD Pa AP a Bedford County father Roy Karns 50 and his four sons were injured when a firecracker exploded in their home. Karns lost his right hand and leg while his son Steve suffered leg injuries and Roy and Time gird were treated for shock. The boys Edward 13 Roy A1 and Time gird were found with the firecracker and taken to Bedford County Memorial Hospital. Karns said the boys brought the firecracker home and he heard a loud explosion then found his family.
Elgin Beaverdam Volunteer Hose Company will operate a 50 by 50 foot food tent at Wattsburg Fair starting Monday. Proceeds support the fire truck and other expenses. Members move gear to the grounds today and tomorrow. Mrs Eluf Dahly will lead the tent with Wetmore coordinating. Women may volunteer via Mrs Roger Barnhart or Mrs Lyle Ladd. electric roasters and extra volunteers are requested.
