Buddhist Catholic clashes kill in Saigon riot

In Saigon Buddhist and Catholic students clashed violently aided by paratroopers with fixed bayonets. At least one Buddhist student died and nine people were confirmed dead over two days of fighting. Gasoline bombs and rocks were used as fires burned near Xay Dung newspaper. Schools closed citywide to curb rioting.

Living Costs Rise modestly in July report

AP notes consumer prices climbed three tenths of one percent in July, the largest monthly rise in a year, driven by meats fruits and vegetables. Ford Agreement Extends UAW Contract Talks

Ford Motor Co. agreed in principle to extend its current UAW contract until September, marking the first sign of compromise in bargaining with the Big Three.
