Gangs Answer New Yorks Cleanup With Attacked Massacre

Gangsters reenact Chicago style massacre in Brooklyn, firing on three men from a sedan. Victims Ferrary Leonardi and Zurrino were shot after being abducted from a dance hall. Police report no weapons found. one man died, others in critical condition as crime-fighting drive intensifies.

Pinchot Submits Mining Proposal

Hold Hearings In Auto Cases In City

Hearings are scheduled this afternoon before Alderman C. B. Porter in two cases involving alleged intoxicated driving. One case stems from a Saturday night crash on The Hire Greek road where seven Clymer residents escaped serious injury as their car overturned after being struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver. Witnesses testified Wrank Lathrop, not Charles Firster, was driving the car and that he did not possess a 1981 driver’s license. Arthur Westcott and Lyle Saxton were passengers. Two beer bottles were entered as exhibits. The occupants denied drinking. No decision was reached at press time. Later hearings were to be held for Hugh Baillie and John Cheney after a Saturday night incident on West Washington street in which liquor was reported in Cheney’s car. Baillie is alleged to have been driving.

Believed woman fell to death in New Tona hotel plunge

A 44 year old woman, Meflieye Brown Muhard Griffith, divorced wife of William J Gris Jr, a prominent aviator, reportedly fell to her death in a hotel room on a tour floor. The incident occurred after she joined a companion in an adjacent room and investigators scrutinize possible causes.

Thousands greet Lindberghs in Nomura Japan welcome

Shouting residents of Nomura packed the eastern shore of Hokkaido when Col and Mrs Lindbergh landed near Nemuro wharf. The couple were given a first country welcome with bands and cheers from 59 000 Japanese and a few Americans at Hagasaki primary school. The welcome signals what they may face at Tokyo Kusumigantanuva Airport.

Petty thieves enter two Southside stores

Thieves believed to be youths infiltrated Brigham Hardware and A and P stores last week, entering through an unlocked rear trap door. Brigham store found entered Saturday night with little missing. A and P entry likely same method. Owners urged to keep doors fastened to avert further incidents.

Three Held in Arson Plot to Destroy Plant

United Press reports in Wilkes-Barre Pa on August 24 that three men Harry Weissberger 98 real estate and insurance operator John Hamnecewicz 45 and Alex Zurick 48 of Scranton were arrested in a state police case exposing an arson plan to destroy the Frank Gross Pants factory valued at 250000 dollars. A night watchman connected to the plot also aided police and a fifth man once proposed burning the building for 10000 dollars. The group prepared dynamite and explosives but police intervened as they assembled for a meeting, arresting all participants.

Three Men Injured As Scaffold Collapses

Pittsburgh August 24 Three workmen were seriously injured when a scaffold on the 29th floor of a downtown building gave way. They fell to the 19th floor before another scaffold halted their descent. The injured include Robert Baumann 41 of Castle Shannon and Otto Langhein 43 of Latrobe, both of Pittsburgh.

Two Year Probe by Commission Finished Today

A two year inquiry by the Wickersham commission on crime finishes with a report stating foreign born Americans are more law abiding than native born. The volumes cite social resistance to prohibitory laws corruption and flawed enforcement. Hoover has not read all volumes nor decided on presenting recommendations to Congress.

Four Cars Involved In Western City Crash

Four cars were involved in a serious crash near the State Fish hatchery annex yesterday evening. Albert Sweet of Haat South Street drove a Dodge roadster and swung right causing a sideswipe with Lauderbaugh's Buick. Jamestown driver Brunk Austin sustained minor damage. Lester Messenger of Corry in a Word roadster followed and could not stop, rear ending Lauderbaugh's car. Sweet's roadster suffered heavy damage. Lauderbaugh escaped with minor damage and shock. No serious injuries reported. highway patrolman from Fria opened an inquiry, no settlement reached yet.

Demented coal miner attacks three with axe in Pa

John Kishi a Renton coal miner attacked a four year old child and two men with an axe in Yew Kensington near Here. The injured were Catherine Zunivag Joseph Varnach George Andrews and Wilbert Clark. Kishi set fire to his home and threatened family then fled to the basement before police detained him for observation.

Woman Hurt As Tire Blows Out Near Bly City

A Sunday morning crash near White Street in Bly City left Luche Auer with an eight inch head gash when a tire blew out on the automobile driven by Mrs Amit Benson of Jamestown. The car left the road and struck a ditch then a tree after being bumped by a passing truck, buckling the passenger side and bruising the occupants, who were shaken but not seriously injured.
