Train Roars By Gas Blast Kills Child In Home

A natural gas pipeline explosion as a freight train passed killed 9 year old Nancy Anna May Rigdon and injured at least eight others in a rural area nine miles south of Van Wert Ohio. The blast touched off a two hour fire fueled by gas, scorched about 100 acres of crops, and damaged the eastbound Erie and Lackawanna train. Fire departments responded from four units as witnesses saw a distant fireball up to 40 miles away.

In Hayneville Alabama deputy Tom Coleman 85 turned himself in on murder charges for the shooting of white theology student Jonathan Daniels 27 and priest Father Richard Morrisroe 28 during a civil rights protest near Lowndes County jail.
