People turn green with envy, red with embarrassment and yellow with jaundice. Jaundice is frequently due to some disease or disorder of the liver. The flow of bile, which is secreted in the liver, may become obstructed in inflammation. Obstruction to the flow of bile does not suppress its secretion. The bile when unable to escape into the intestines seeps into the blood. This carried to all the tissues of the body, giving yellow discoloration to the whites of the eyes and to the skin. During the first stage of infectious hepatitis, which precedes the appearance of jaundice, there is rise of temperature with chilly sensations, headache and loss of appetite.
