Oil City August 17 members and committees of the Women s Christian Temperance Union plan to entertain 500 delegates at the state convention to be held October 4 to 4 in Oil City. Local host committee led by Mrs C Stoomons and officers outline housing plans and preparations as counties across Pennsylvania are expected to participate.
At the home of Nelson W. Trisket on August 15, Nelson Trisket and Lelina Trisket joined in marriage to William Messenger of Columbus. L. Woodin officiated with only immediate family present. Guests enjoyed cake and pineapple sherbet as gifts and refreshments.
In Mercer County town on Aug 16, Mrs. Irene Rogers widow was shot and killed by neighbor Turner after a long feud over a field and a horse. Rogers confronted Turner at the barn armed with a revolver, Turner fled then returned with a shotgun, faced Rogers at close range, she fired again, collapsed and died. Turner surrendered to authorities.
Tampstown August 17 William a Beullouy Jr of this city has enlisted in the Canadian infantry for service in the English army In the European War he went to Niagara Falls Ont last Saturday where he enrolled and received fly designation He was stationed with the 44th Regiment of Canadian Infantry at present at Pharmald Ont The enlistment was made with the condition that he be sent out for active service In the present war The regiment to leave tomorrow for active service at the front going to England and thence to be told by battle Mr Bentley is the son of Mr and Mrs W J Bentley of Flagg Avenue
