Bear Sighting Sparks Kane Borough Bear Capture
Aug 16 Kane Borough residents helped two unidentified children escape a full grown black bear near Fraley Street. Witnesses said the 100 plus pound bear entered from woods north of Lown and lingered by Sterling Oil grounds before retreating into the woods. Local hunters and residents pursued the animal and a photo was finally taken near the Sterling Oil depot, marking possibly the first bear photograph in Kane Borough.

Erie bandit nabbed within ten minutes in Sut E
In Erie a gunman robbed a grocer and his 12 year old daughter on Sut E 10th street, then fled but was captured within ten minutes at 0th and Parade streets. The suspect LeRoy Powell, 23, 1161 10th street, was booked at the city jail. The storekeeper Join B. Sulewski raised no alarm. Powell then fled but was cornered by Patrolman Feldt and detectives Reagan and Donatine. Powell had only $250.

Muggles drug case ends with county prison term
Wiliam Pullen, 90, of Lawrence Mass., cripple, sentenced in Erie county court to three to six months for possession of martiniana, a rapidly spreading habit. Judge Copeland pronounced the term, marking the first such sentence since 1923 legislation. Pullen admitted obtaining the Gope, a quick habit forming substance, after lengthy questioning.

Rabbit Pursuit Fatal Car Crash Near Le Mans
In Le Mans France farmer Leon Menant and neighbor Gustave Plumard attempted to avoid a rabbit on the highway. The car struck a rock and overturned. Plumard was killed the rabbit escaped.

Urge Ban on Musky Sale Across Western New York
In Balamancha August 16 a meeting of Sportsmen's Clubs of Cattaraugus county adopted a resolution urging state action to stop selling muskalrange and bass in Cattaraugus and Chautauqua counties and to cut the bass bag limit from fifteen to eight in Cattaraugus. The gathering drew representatives from several clubs in the region and included a delegation from Warren, Pa. Plans were discussed to push the ban through in 1951 western New York counties. The meeting was held at the Administration Building in Allegany State Park and drew about sixty attendees.
