Lock Haven PA. Dennis M Vogel 21 of Mill Hall charged with a double murder and robbery at the W Grant store where he worked was found mentally incompetent to stand trial after a sanity examination. A hearing had been postponed for psychiatric tests. The commission said Vogel suffers from schizophrenia or dual personality with delusions. He allegedly admitted shooting store manager D W Atwood and assistant Shirley Rechel and robbing about $1000 from the safe. Vogel fled with his wife and child after the Aug 1 robbery murder and was captured in Canada. The examining panel included Dr Robert Gatski of Danville State Hospital, Dr Leslie R Angus, and James T Smith.
Jacqueline Kennedy slept late after a post midnight dinner party on Capri island. A yacht belonging to Italian car king Gianni Agnelli hosted dinner for 15. Mrs Kennedy and guests walked around the main square at 4 am before returning to their villa.
The Air Force said a 5,000 mile Atlas missile test from Cape Canaveral went flawlessly. A military crew launched the Atlas F and completed a smooth 30 minute flight to the South Atlantic Ocean. The program previously faced issues during Turkey tests.
Corry Area Joint School Committee moves to establish a National Honor Society chapter at Corry Area High School with guidance by Mrs. Martha Pfusch as the new guidance director. For younger students, an honor roll recognition plan is hoped within six weeks after Student Council review. Meanwhile Miss Florence Williams, 67, was killed near North Center and Park Place when struck by a car driven by Rex Ireland, 20, after stepping from behind a pole into the street.
In a historic 6% to 27 vote the Senate adopted a debate limit to end a filibuster on the administration's communications satellite bill. For the first time in over 35 years a bipartisan leadership motion cleared the way to invoke the 45 year old cloture rule. Each senator will be limited to one additional hour of debate.
WARKEN AP reports Wat yen Democrat Joseph Beyeyino, a three year councilman, moved to alter a resolution plan for erection of signs directing to Kinzua Dam. The motion passed unanimously at last night’s borough council meeting, Beyeyino noting it was his first unani mously supported proposal. The council comprises one Democrat and seventeen Republicans.
Jamestown youth Ransford R. Gould age 17 of R D 2 Jamestown died at WCA Hospital following a one car crash on the Palcon e Stillwater road about two miles northeast of Jamestown. He was the county's sixth traffic fatality this year. Coroner Frederick Hitchcock said the head and internal injuries were sustained. He will issue an accidental death certificate. The sheriff's office reported Gould was eastbound, lost control on a curve, the car skidded 3100 feet then struck a bridge and traveled 40 more feet before stopping. The left front tire blew out, timing of which remains undetermined.

The Joint Committee approved dates September 23 October 28 November ath December 2 and 5 all from 12 noon to 2 pm. Sponsored by the Erie County Medical Society the clinic is free though donations will be accepted.
