Halifax Aug 14 Out of a flood of rumors about affairs along the Nova Scotian coast comes a statement from HMS Suffolk that on Friday the British cruiser Berwick and the Karlsruhe clashed off the American coast. The Suffolk chased the Karlsruhe as it began to take in coal from the German liner Kronprinz Wilhelm and forced their escape amid smoke. The Berwick and Suffolk reported no injury to either German or British ships as they maneuvered near Halifax. The Suffolk picked up a British prisoner and two men from the water while the Berwick evaded damage. A British owner and various rental notices follow, including a high room in a corner market and a red ladies coat lost in Corry, Pa.
