Two boys aged 11 and 5 were killed when an automobile struck them as they played near their Salem home three miles east. A 14 year old girl and a 4 year old boy were injured and hospitalized in fair condition. Police said the driver lost control while braking over a hill, skidded off the road, and hit the children before escaping.
Allen Johnson, 81, of Pittsburgh’s Hill District, was sentenced to death for the fatal shooting of Howard Washington, 83, last November 8. Johnson told the court he went to a Hill District bar to retrieve his money, claiming an accidental discharge occurred during a confrontation.
A robber in an elevated car seized Janet Kroehling, 18, from Girard Investment Co. and fled with $1000. He told the hostage he needed money to buy his children, then fired a bullet before abandoning the vehicle at a station.
A fatal accident occurred three miles south of Whitney Point New York when a vehicle plunged into a field yesterday killing six men associated with the family of George L. Van Houde of Fort Knox. Authorities investigated the exact cause and identified the victims.
