Seven teenagers en route to a church picnic were killed when a Santa Fe passenger train struck their stalled auto near Lubbock. Engineer Norman Bickers described the train at 79 mph, pushing the car a mile along the track. Victims included Barbara Fancher 16, Carolyn Carson 16, Sharon Miller 16, James Loveless 17, Bill Shiney ? 16, Floyd Loveless 18, and Jimmy Laws 12. Police expect reckless driving charges. all four men from Erie were bound for a outing camp east of Corry. Railroads plan to cut about 10 percent of their workforce, potentially eliminating 65 000 jobs, in a broad cost reduction effort. Five operating unions with 210 000 workers seek a court order to preserve current work rules. A 11 year old girl missing from Pittsburg area was identified by Topeka police as Charlotte Dietz daughter of William J Diet of Pittsburg Mississippi. She had amnesia and was treated at the State Hospital after being found July 27 in Kansas. Her home is listed in Pittsburg. Father crushed to death under a truck cab in Potstown Pa. William McRee 28 left four children.
