Filet Wrotter and assistant Pilot John Rieker of the Goodyear X balloon won the grudge race near Cleveland, passing south of the city during early Monday morning. The duo landed six miles northeast of LeRaysville after about 14 hours and five minutes, as rivals near Wellsboro, Pennsylvania faded short of their mark. They described rough winds over the Alleghenies causing tree contact and $500 in gear damage, and planned to route to Pittsburgh then Akron.
Democratic National Chairman James A. Farley predicted a surprise in Gov. Alf M. Landon's home state of Kansas. He said polls from Republican editors show Landon behind Roosevelt with Kansas voters, noting one Kansas poll was halted because Roosevelt led by a huge margin.

In a broad Sherman anti trust action the justice department released details of indictments against 23 major oil companies 58 individuals and three publications for price fixing and pooling gasoline purchases. Leading defendants include Standard Oil of Indiana Socony Vacuum and other major firms. Indictments stem from a federal grand jury investigation initiated last May by Attorney General Homer Cummings.
In Aniston Alabama Aug 2 Hoose well Collins Hierro Jony faced a passing sentence for a criminal incident involving a young army wife whose husband testified. Collins was remanded to September 4 by Judge B Carr after a jury deliberated minutes finding him guilty on the first ballot. The defendant testified the wife submitted to him and a man leapt from his seat in the crowded courtroom. National Guardsmen restrained them to avert conflict.
Calgary August 4 Prime Minister William Aberhart announced that 200000 prosperity certificates of one dollar each would be distributed to workers on provincial government projects beginning Thursday or Friday. The scrip is designed to redeem itself via a tax penalizing those who hoard them, drawing on U S practices during hard times.
