In Dowell Ul a pair of inquests opened into nine miners asphyxiated by carbon monoxide while fighting a fire in a diggings area of Union Collieries. Twelve others were revived after being overcome as a transformer exploded, scattering burning oil near the shaft two and a half miles away.
Un iontown Pa Aug 3 Two boys John and Charles Strezank aged 12 and 11 from Ronco Pa drowned in the Monongahela River near Masontown Witnesses said John sank while trying to rescue his younger brother The brothers were identified by a sibling per witnesses
Clara Barker a 20 year old maid employed by Mrs Alice M Guilford of 821 Chelsea avenue was beaten and alleged criminally assaulted by two men near the Guilford home on Sunday morning She is from Wattsburg and is in serious condition under a family physician Investigating officers Sergeant Harold Pearce and Trooper John Zerbe located the assault after the duo reportedly used the last West 8th street and State streets crossing at 12 20 a m Sunday.
Local motorists will continue to take automobile driver permit examinations at the regular state highway patrol periods. Examinations are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month at the Municipal building. Corporal P. E Carlson announced the policy after inquiries about local patrol exam administration.
