Disaster at New River mine entombs hundreds in West Virginia

United Press reports a fatal explosion at the New River Colliery Company mine in Beckley on April 28. About two hundred and possibly more workers were trapped in the Second Shaft as rescue teams rush to the scene. Weather forecasts predict showers tonight and colder temperatures on Wednesday.

Huerta Accepts Mediation Offer For All Differences With U S

Secretary Bryan was informed that Huerta agreed to submit Mexican and U S demands to mediation under the Bra zil plan. Foreign injuries unresolved, but no Americans killed in Mexico City. one American jailed in Agua Caliente. Admiral Badger said Vera Cruz fighting ended. trains for foreign evacuees to be arranged. Naval display and a 7:30 p.m. curfew order issued by Admiral Fletcher. Reports say Villa Carranza and others discuss continuing campaigns. Saltillo may be held by rebel forces.

Mexican Federals destroy road near Veracruz to Mexico City

A April 28 report states Mexican Federals have torn up the roadway between Vera Cruz and Mexico City near Tojera. The destruction of the line is advancing rapidly with the action being communicated to the State Bonparment.

Local trolley plans revived in city commission conference

City commission met in the offices of Kincaid and Kincald for a conference on Corry and Columbus Street Railway. C P Northrop and W W Blair attended as plans to extend the street railway were discussed. A new company aims to raise substantial capital here with manufacturers to visit Elo this week to aid the project.

Oil Prices Drop In Ohio Today

Oil prices fell across Ohio and Indiana following yesterday’s Pennsylvania decline. Most Ohio oils lost about two cents per barrel, Wooster slid ten cents amid expectations of further drops, while North and South Lima each fell five cents in morning trading.

Plans Ready for Local Chautauqua Week in Corry

A meeting of 1601 citizens pledged to back a Chautauqua Week in Corry will be called within days. Redpath Brockway bureau, contractor, held a meeting last week and will likely return soon. The Chautauqua is planned for about the first week of August with location details still unannounced.
