Explosion at New Aver collieries death toll rises

Winton West Virginia April 29 Federal Director D A Holmes visited the scene and left for Weales where 184 miners are entombed after a shaft explosion at Shaft No 5. The death toll now reaches 201 with rescue crews refocused by gas. Anxious families, many widows and orphans, gathered at the mine opening as officials pledged state aid. Governor Hatfield and state inspectors coordinated response and investigations into the disaster.

Meadville High School Assault On Principal by Student

Harry Stone assistant principal at Meadville High School was assaulted during a study period by student Kelser. Stone suffered a broken nose. a physician treated him and a second surgery was reported. A board meeting was held to address the incident amid student outrage and an investigation into prior drinking was noted.

Mrs John O'Neil Dies After Illness In Wilkinaburg

Death notice states Mrs. John O'Neil of Wilkinaburg, formerly of West Main Street in the city, died yesterday after a recent surgical operation. Remains will be taken to the city Friday for interment at St Thomas Cemetery, with no services here. Survived by sons John Will Walter Thomas of Pittsburgh and Owen of Texas, and daughters Mrs Archie Gilnon and Mrs Brigham, both of Pittsburgh. The family lived in Corry for years and were well known locally.

Wreckage located near Duluth today confirms the loss of the vessel Benjamin Noble a lake ore mixer valued at $75 000 owned by the Transportation Company Detroit bound crew of eighteen men. Odd Fellows Memorial to Occur Sunday

The Odd Fellows of Ely and the Rebekahs will hold a memorial service at United Brethren Church Sunday evening. The 26th of the present occasion marks the fifth anniversary of Odd Fellowship in the country. A procession from Johnathan Lodge rooms at North Center Street gathers at 7 o clock for the service led by Rev. N J McIntyre.

Franci Kinter of Gulod City represented the Association of Pentecostal Holiness in Corry yesterday, swearing warrants against Hugh News and Bi Cross for illegal entry and retainer. Con stable J.C.
