Four United States Marines Killed in Vera Cruz Battle

Reports from Washington reveal the first major clash of the Mexican campaign with four American marines killed during the assault on the Vera Cruz customs house. The seizure of the city by U.S. forces followed a naval bombardment and an intense street fight as Admiral Fletcher directed operations. casualties were confirmed as Marines faced heavy fire from Huerta loyalists.

City Clerk Ream Resigns and Blaine Kincaid Elected

A city commission meeting last night saw City Clerk George M. Ream resign and Blaine Kincaid elected to the unexpired term. The session also approved building additions for the European Hotel, discussed street pavement widening on Center Street, and directed bids for annual street work. The Board of Health reported a single smallpox case at the Holden home improving with no spread evident.

Mrs Schaad Dies in Corry at 83

Mrs Mathew Schasck died at dawn at the family home on Concord Street after weeks of illness. One of Corry’s oldest residents she was 83. She is survived by her husband and two sons Willfain Stemm of Jamestown and Jolly Stem, now in Mexico.

Bulletin Troops Enter Vera Cruz

Message from Mexico City reports United States troops have entered Vera Cruz to block German arms shipments to Huerta's forces. No further details at 4:10 p.m. The forecast calls for fall tonight and warmer conditions on Wednesday.
