Narrow Escape in Bear Lake Fire Tarnished War Danger

Bear Lake woke to danger as a blaze swept Mrs. Lena Burdick’s home on West Greeley. Neighbors carried the 60 plus resident to safety around 8 45 am while flames threatened nearby buildings. The house and most contents were destroyed, with partial insurance coverage. Mrs Burdick stayed with her sister Mrs Risley while burns and debris were cleared and no other structures were harmed.

Poison pen attack on DAR leader denounced

Washington April 18 the D A R Congress denounced an anonymous poison pen attack on Mrs Henry B Joy of Detroit Michigan candidate for vice president general. Officials said Joy’s husband’s alleged repeal support to the 18th Amendment was referenced in letters published years ago by the Detroit Free Press. Cut In Rates On Southern Coal To Begin Sat

Open defiance of prohibition in Pittsburgh city wide

Four Children Die in House Fire Near Here

Four Tennant children aged 3 to 10 died when fire destroyed the Denton Tennant home near Here, Sisterville, Wy Va. The parents tried to save them as two other siblings, Andre Tennant 17 and Dennie Tennant 17, were badly burned. Gas leaked from a defective stove hose ignited by an oil lamp, spreading the blaze.

German flyers stranded on Greenly Island in Quebec

United Press dispatch from Montreal reports German transatlantic flyers Fitzmaurice and Schiller stranded on Greenly Island as rescue efforts unfold.
