Planning Commission Schedules Second Public Hearing on Coronado Zoning

Planning Commission will hold a second public hearing on Coronado's re zoning ordinance and map at 8 p m next Monday in the Gold Room at Hotel del Coronado. Chairman Mark Beauchamp said the meeting is moved from City Hall to the hotel for attendance amid few changes to existing zoning laws and regulations.

Fares Raised Between Coronado and San Diego

The new rate structure approved by the State Public Utilities Commission took effect last Monday after a San Diego public hearing on July 8. Auto classifications gained five cents, with rates from 20 to 30 cents. passengers pay 10 cents or four for 25 cents. Driver's fare is in auto rate. each extra passenger incurs 10 cents or a 6 cent ticket. 60 ride commutation books have been discontinued by the San Diego and Coronado Ferry Company.

City M Dance thrills Coronado teens at Memorial Youth Center

About 200 300 teens attended the gala City M Dance at the Memorial Youth Center in Coronado Saturday night. Bill Ames and his State College orchestra provided music from 8 p m to midnight as youths enjoyed sandwiches, cokes, ping pong, and billiards in the center built in 1946 in memory of Coronado war veterans. Local business firms and community organizations funded the event.

Guard officers praise USO building suited as Coronado armory

Maj. Charles Columbia of the Adjutant General's office and Maj. Horace Moore inspected the USO building on the Silver Strand escorted by city officials. They favored the site for a Coronado Battery B armory, noting minor alterations needed and possible occupancy soon. Negotiations with the Federal Works Agency aim to a 49 year lease under Spreckels terms, says City Manager Howard Fuller.

Coronado Ranch Purchase Wins 3-1 City Vote

The Coronado City Council approved the purchase of ranch land five miles below the city on the Silver Strand with a 3-1 majority after a light voter turnout of 1653 ballots from 5400 registereds. Project plans include a multi million dollar resort hotel area and later use of Naval Amphibious Base rental funds to cover debt.
