Coronado Council backs land purchase move and options

Coronado City Council favors acquiring adjacent lands including the hog ranch and golf course. Mayor Archibald Abel discussed a 90 day option with Spreckels Companies and potential bond election funding while also negotiating on the USO building price and FPHA housing dormitory issues.

Crown Cove Yacht Club Party Lights up Summer Sendoff

About 75 members and guests gathered at Crown Cove for a Saturday night beach party with 15 anchored boats. A steak supper, Mike Alesi accordion music, bonfire singing, and late night bacon and eggs capped the festive Yacht Club event. Lighting and electricity came from locals, enabling impromptu skits and sand searches. Members with boats named Surprise Spray Evelina Mystic Leilani Bean Bag Alvina Sunmaid Turtle Mapabena Annette Capt. Hatch's Little Dipper Miss Prim were listed among attendees. The week also featured a board meeting voting to raise dues to 24 per year and fund club improvements including a fence and landscaping near Pomona Street. Mayor Abel and wife were away on fishing trip, with return slated for early October for city meetings.

High School Football Team Guests at Rotary Luncheon

Coronado High School football players attended a Rotary Club luncheon with remarks by Pecarovich on mental aspects of football. Coach Jones of USC contrasted Notre Dame’s 27–0 win, and alumni honored included J. R. Goodbody, Leo Hansen, and others.
