Fletcher's Record on Vets Legislation Is Reviewed

Congressman Charles K. Fletcher of California's 23rd District is portrayed as a strong advocate for veterans in a survey of 80th Congress veterans legislation. He supported subsistence for student GIs and increases in allowances for on the job trainees, cashing of terminal leave bonds, pensions for Spanish American War vets, and dependent survivor compensation. Fletcher, a war veteran, backed veterans home building, government home loans, special autos for amputees, extended insurance renewal, presuming service connection for chronic diseases, and a $1 a day subsistence for World War II prisoners in Japan.

Four Coronatians Attend Presbyterian Meeting

The Junior High Westminster Fellowship of the Presbyterian church of Southern California met at Elysian Park Los Angeles on Saturday with about 100 attendees from the area. Notable participants included Stanley Baker Eloise Carson Joan George and Mary Lou George from Graham Memorial Presbyterian church. Pauline Townsend actress in Walls of Jericho gave a talk and is a member of First Presbyterian Hollywood.

Davis and Dawn Stevenson celebrated their birthday Saturday with Halloween decorations and a cake featuring black cats witches and a harvest moon. A dozen children attended the party hosted by Mr and Mrs Robert Stevenson.

Population Growth Spurs Two County Projects Ballot

The County Committee For Isands chaired by Arthur H. Marston of San Diego urges voters to approve two long delayed projects. The Hall of Justice would be a six story i shaped complex housing the Superior Court offices and sheriff’s jail while a separate Juvenile Center would serve delinquent youths. The Hall of Justice bond is 1.6 million amortized over 30 years and the existing 1871 court house site could be sold for about a half million to help fund the plans. Women’s groups back the Juvenile Center with broad community support.

State Featherbedding Committee Charges R R Men With Hiding Facts

The California Committee Against Featherbedding accused Railroad Brotherhoods of a deliberate campaign to mislead the public about featherbedding on freight trains. Willie Osborn of Oakland said an official memorandum warned featherbedding brakemen to avoid public platforms, citing the 1911 Excess Crew Law. Propositon 3 would end featherbedding and let the Public Utilities Commission set safety based rules. Additional speakers linked featherbedding to rising living costs, with remarks by Mrs. Paul C. Alexander and Thomas J. Riordan.

Fleet Visits Acapulco on Naval Reserve Cruise

Sixty three officers and 283 enlisted men from 18 Naval Reserve Training Centers depart for a two week training cruise. Rear Admiral Laurence T. Du Bose directs the cruise aboard the USS Curtiss with Destroyer Division 92 and ships Madox Taussig and Brush. Training runs four days in Acapulco with arrival October 15 and return to San Diego after October 18.
