The 1948 Red Cross ten day drive starts March 10 with a local quota of 14000. Campaign officials include Chairman John Crise and Vice Chairman Capt Stewart Reynolds. District volunteers are listed by district with captains and workers named for immediate door to door fundraising.

Colony To Serve Daily Under New Owner Thompson

The Colony at 1107 Orange Avenue will be open seven days a week from noon until 2 am under new owner C. V. Thompson who took over March 1. Thompson, a former Navy man, vows consistent high quality and will add new signs and interior decorations while keeping the avocado dressing.

Abel Asked To Serve On Committee For State Redevelopment

Paul R. Williams, chairman of the Community Redevelopment Committee, invites Mayor Archibald D. Abel to join the state agency advisory panel. Coronado plans to enlarge its Chamber of Commerce with a board directed campaign. Charles Free leads canvassing to boost membership and may hire a full time manager if growth justifies it. John D. Schroeder introduced Grace J. Cahill as secretary, replacing Kay Doakes who left for San Francisco.

Coronado Council Plans orderly housing turnover

Mayor A D Abel states in a March 4 letter to Rep Charles Fletcher that the Coronado City Council will not refill vacancies to orderly replace the housing project with an improved development. With 66 of 744 units vacated monthly, turnover should finish in under a year.

Dangerous poisoner threat in Coronado sparks warning

Coronado residents warned of a dangerous poisoner using a highly poisoned sugary substance. Parents told to instruct children to avoid any picked up items. Police urge immediate reports of suspicious individuals to the force and reference a letter from Police Chief Jordan on page 7.

Bicycle Safety Week Begins Under Local Kiwanis Sponsorship

The Coronado Kiwanis Club sponsors Bicycle Safety Week to promote safer bicycling among local youths. Principal Max Forney and Police Officer Pop Millar back the effort with a parade slated 10 a.m. Saturday from Cutler Field along Orange Avenue to the business district.

Shrine Club Forming in Coronado Dinner Meeting

Members of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles Mystic Shrine in Coronado and nearby areas plan to organize a Shrine Club under Al Bahr Temple. A dinner and meeting at the Masonic Temple are set for March 20 at 6 30 p.m with reservations due by March 13 to H P Morris.

County Chiefs Sponsor Inter City Safety Contest

County Police Chiefs decide to sponsor the annual Inter City Safety Contest for the county at an informal gathering. J W Jordan Coronado Police Chief reported yesterday. Coronado won last year's contest. San Diego Police Chief Elmer Jansen presented a road blockade plan to aid quick criminal capture. Next monthly meeting will be held in Chula Vista.
