The Coronado City Council discharged a loyal employee after 42 years of service in a 3-2 decision amid accusations of lack of notice and a denied hearing. Critics call the move costly and unjust, noting retirement benefits and travel cost questions tied to the action.
City employee Bandel faces uncertain retirement eligibility as Coronado prepares a local retirement plan. State officials indicate partial part-time status may bar local benefits but could allow state benefits if he is reinstated and averages 22 hours weekly until the plan takes effect.
