W T Vandiver Coronado recreation director spoke to the 20 30 Club detailing highlights from the Governor's Conference on Youth Welfare in Sacramento. He listed three major projects a lighted softball diamond a large municipal auditorium with recreation rooms and a year round swimming pool with funding via a bond issue shared by all property owners. Robt Dillon announced a Saturday beach party planning complete and weekend paper drive proceeds will fund junior traffic patrol uniforms per CHP and State Board of Education standards.
The Southern District of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club will hold a summer conference. Attendees include Martha Fishback, Betty Burford, Elsie Jacobs, Carol Fifield, Ruth Cooper, Florence Brown, and Lucile Billon.
Coronado Yacht Club hosted an open house with sailing trips and refreshments on the veranda attended by members and guests. Ten boats competed in the Ocean Handicap Series with Angela first Betty second and Winsome third as Misty and other craft struggled in light winds. A Cove Party with Crown Cove members from Coronado and San Diego Yacht Clubs follows, featuring steak supper and entertainment, with ships Described including Serai Wahoo and Partenope II among others.
The Boxer and Princeton midshipmen totaling 1 189 arrived at the Amphibious Base for a week of amphibious training and embarkation duties. Commander John V. Peterson leads the Princeton contingent with Capt C D Emory as naval science professor at the University of Washington. The three groups will join August recruits. many naval cadets will come from these NROTC units. The unit began its cruise June 26, visiting Pearl Harbor and San Francisco before current operations.
