Busy Bay Area yacht races mark Fourth of July weekend

A Sunday July 4 invitational handicap race on an eight mile Bay course crowned John Washington aboard Cucaracha as winner with Alvin Frank in Angela second and Elmer Muhl in Spray third. Ladies contest Kitty Muhl Trophy on July 11 with orders from the tiller as crews.

Rev Mounts Joins St Pauls Methodist Church Coronado

The Rev David Lee Mounts arrives in Coronado to lead St Pauls Methodist Church after appointment by Bishop James Chamberlain Baker at the Long Beach conference. He comes from Gardena First Methodist after prior service in Banning, with degrees from Redlands Pomona and USC. The Mounts settle at 724 Olive Avenue and will soon host the public.

Rotarians Explore Tuna Film Voyage In Coronado Luncheon

Coronado Rotarians held a luncheon at the Hotel del Coronado and toured the tuna fish kingdom via a color film shown in the Green Room. Capt. Alexander J. Gray Jr. USN (Ret.) presided as president for the first time. Paul Corriere’s birthday was celebrated. Guests included Joseph Holloway and Arthur Jessup.

Noted Publisher and Radio Exec Visits Coronado

George Ibach secretary of the Pulitzer Publishing Company and general manager of two St. Louis radio stations visits Coronado with Mrs. Burbach and Mrs. Harry Paufrock. They have vacationed here 12 years and stay at the Hotel del Coronado. Dr. M Wiener of Alameda Boulevard, a former St. Louis surgeon, is among their Coronado acquaintances.

Rosary Held for Mrs Frances Solak. Mass at St Charles

Services were held for Frances Theresa Solak 55 of 998 Seventh Street Imperial Beach who died July 6. A rosary was recited at Coronado Mortuary and a Mass at St Charles Church Palm City. Survived by four children Virginia and Helen Espanol Leonard Henry Solak a brother and sister and five grandchildren. The Weiss family moved from San Diego to 343 G Avenue.

Coronado School Board Advances Four New Teachers

Coronado Unified Schools awarded contracts to four probationary teachers, paving the way for elementary and high school staffing. The meeting also accepted the resignation of Berniard L. Bernhard, and shifted board meeting dates to the second Wednesday at 7 30 p m. Charles Soderburg reported the city will lease Library Park land for a kindergarten Child Care Center building.

Recreation Body To Hear Coronado Child Problems

A committee to present problems of six to 12 year old Coronado children was appointed at a Wednesday meeting led by Mrs. F. R. Bellaire. The AAUW branch organized the effort, inviting thirty attendees to discuss recreation needs and potential facilities at Strand North Beach and a site near Yacht Club. The next meeting is July 27 at 8 p.m. at the Youth Center.

Mrs Drake hosts a CARE benefit book review and tea on Friday July 16 at her home 374 D Avenue. Mrs Harry S Clark interprets a humorous edition while Mrs Bruce Hazard outlines CARE work and shows contents of CARE packages for Europe.
