Coronado Open Forums Resume With Noted Speakers

Coronado resumes its Open Forums this month to discuss national and international issues. Sponsored by Night School, the free lectures will be in the High School auditorium with prominent speakers guiding discussion. The first forum is next Thursday evening January 22.

Coronado Council Considers Employee Election and Fire Hazards

The meeting urged an internal election among city employees to bring the City Employees Retirement Fund to ballot status. Councilwoman Burst raised concerns about boarded up vacant houses posing fire hazards. Fire Chief Welch was instructed to inspect all vacant buildings and report back for action.

Kiwanians Hear Views On Labor Law

John F. Quimby of the San Diego Central Labor Council spoke to the Coronado Kiwanis largely opposing the Taft-Hartley Labor Management Relations Act noting it could create government by injunction. He said unions should govern themselves and address violators, with full effects anticipated August 22.

Free Travelogues To Be Shown Next Week

The second half of the travelogue series by Elliot Travel Service of Coronado will be shown at Christ Church Parish Hall at 8 p.m. Monday January 19 and at the Presbyterian Church at 8 p.m. Wednesday January 21. Color films titled Mexico City and Wings Over Alaska will be screened. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

Used Fat Drive To Benefit Coronado Hospital

Cub Scout Pack 35 sponsored by Coronado Kiwanis Club will launch a used fat drive starting January 23 to aid Coronado Hospital. Scouts will canvass every home in Coronado. residents may call H-3-3153 or H-3-6266 if missed. Ferry Market and Lamb's Market will accept fat before the drive opens.
