State Board letter on Coronado taxation disclosure

At Tuesday's council meeting Mayor Abel read the State Board of Equalization reply to Coronado tax concerns. The board explains it cannot revise local assessed values or adjust individual Coronado properties, noting its power targets county rolls for overall equalization. It commends County Assessor Crowell I Eddy and urges property owners to appeal to the County Board of Equalization if needed. Continued on Page 7.

Police Chief and Coronado Police Praised by Naval Station

In a 1947 commendation from Capt. L. E. Gehres, Commander of the Naval Air Station, Police Chief J. W. Jordan and the Coronado Police Department are lauded for their cooperation with the Station Shore Patrol. The letter extols unusually pleasant relations with local law enforcement.

Schroeder Presides at Coronado Chamber Meeting

John Schroder led the Coronado Chamber of Commerce in its first meeting of the year. After the regular business items including treasurer and secretary reports a general discussion of plans for 1948 was held and a special meeting of officials will appoint executive committees.

VFW Dance Planned by Coronado Chapter and Auxiliaries

The VFW and its Auxiliary announce a first Saturday night dance at the VFW Hall this weekend at 8 p.m. A four piece swing band Tune Twisters headlines with door prizes and a prize giveaway, offering Coronado ladies a Leap Year social option.

Coronado Players Open Season With Here Today

Adult Evening Courses Presented at Coronado High School

Coronado High School announces a free public program of adult evening courses. Interior decorating with Mr. George Obert on Tuesdays 7 15 to 9 15 in Room 38 covers design, furnishings and floor plans. Typing with Mrs. Anne Love on Tuesdays 7 15 to 9 15 in Room 17 teaches touch typing in a small class. Spanish continuation introduces pronunciation and conversation for beginners.

Coronado 20-30 Club installs new officers at special meeting

Coronado 20-30 Club held a special meeting to install officers for 1948. Stuart Neely was elected president with Dale Shearer as first vice president and Robert T. Dillon as second vice president. Board members are Mike Michaels, Dunc Turnipseed, Ed Campbell and Emil Johnson. Paul Clement received the 1947 plaque. Neil Grimsley got the past active pin. Ladies were present for Ladies Night and the group adjourned to the Hotel del Coronado for dancing. A meeting is set for next Monday at the Coronado Yacht Club with guest speaker Captain Jesse B. Gay on Latin America as a neighbor.

Coronado Council Bans Smoking on Public Buses

Coronado City Council passes an ordinance prohibiting smoking on all public conveyances within city limits with only one dissent. Other actions include appointing Glenn Greene to the Recreation Commission, proposing a volunteer emergency police unit, raising crosswalk guard pay, backing the Little Theatre Group’s USO Building purchase, praising the Post Office, and referring a Taxi Stand proposal to police and city manager.

In response to City Manager How ard Fuller, the State Highway Department cites a regulation banning diagonal or angle parking on Orange Avenue. Only parallel parking is allowed on the main thoroughfare, with potential future changes if Coronado expands its main street.

Commodore Benjamin Seymour will preside at the Coronado Yacht Club Directors meeting this evening. The new commodore has appointed committees for the year and nearly every active member has been assigned work. Coronado Kiwanis Install Officers And Hear Labor Talk

Newly elected Coronado Kiwanis officers and directors were installed at a Friday meeting in the La Avenida Cafe. George McMasters became president, with Charles Denham as vice president, Carl Gifford secretary, and Michael Monro treasurer. Guest speaker John F. Quimby of the Central Labor Council will discuss Labor's view of Taft Hartley and inflation trends.
