The St Louis Junction, Missouri, and Southern Railways offers one third fare on certificate plans for Arkansas events including Grand Chapter Eastern Star in Texarkana Arkansas June 25 to 28 and Arkansas State Bar in Hot Springs May 21-22. Other discounts apply for Knights Templar in Louisville August 27-31 and Baptist Young People in Chicago July 25-28 with specified sale and return limits. Also discounts to Little Rock June 11-12 for Arkansas Music Teachers Association and Chautauqua Assembly at Ft Smith June 9-18 with single or group rates. Regional notes report Pettigrew led expansion plans as Frisco railroad aims to push into north Arkansas. An election in July will decide Little River county seat location. Harrison post office serves about 150 miles to distribute mail in North Arkansas.
The Texarkana fair grounds construction is nearing finish and touted as the finest in the state. Other items note lightning deaths in Georgia, oil dividends, cancer research, trade opens, a tragic Davenport accident, and global events including Spain, Cuba, and South Africa developments.
Willis Sitton a notorious St. Joe resident who killed Elliot on Buffalo last fall was shot and killed by a boy named John Allen near Western Grove Boone county last week. Allen and two companions confronted Sitton at widow Mrs. Reeves home at midnight after Sitton and others abused the boy. Sitton drew a pistol and fired hitting Sitton as he raised a whisky bottle.
The Lester Mill Company plant near Helena was nearly wiped out by fire on the 9th. The dry kiln, recently erected, planer, lumber on the yards about 3,000,000 feet, and six loaded cars were lost. The plant was owned by Bratt Bros and a St. Louis capitalist, Mr. Pierce. Estimated loss ranges from $60,000 to $75,000.
L S Dunaway will work three months soliciting advertising in Little Rock for the Youth's Porn a new paper just city. Miss Mary Frazier formerly of this city is now stenographer and typewriter in the office of the Dickerson Hardware Co Little Rock.
