Prominent Citizen Thomas Jefferson Custer Dies at 63
Thomas Jefferson Custer died at his home near Columbia Friday evening after a lingering illness. He was a fruit grower and public man, serving as Columbia Township trustee for nearly six years. A member of the Horticultural Society, he owned a large peach orchard in Eastern Indiana. He was 63, born April 23, 1837, and survived by his wife Ella Stevens and three children. Funeral services were held Sunday at 11 a.m. at the Columbia church with Rev. Jesse Niller presiding and a quartette providing music. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs Blanche Turner born Blanche Cooley 29, daughter of Lycurgus and wife, spent much of life in Connersville where she was admired for culture. She married Oliver P Turner December 27 1899 in Columbus and a daughter was born November 4. Complications from childbirth led to her death at home November 21. Funeral held in Columbus and then at her father’s house in Green City. Reverend Farr and Reverend Stutz led services at First M E Church with simple, impressive rites.
