In Precinct 1 471 Republicans and 233 Democrats voted, Precinct 2 230 Republicans and 161 Democrats, Precinct 3 398 Republicans and 124 Democrats. Springfield Mayor Thomas J. O'Connor defeated Gov. Foster Furcolo 252 to 191 in a statewide upset. Peabody led Ward in the governor race with 224 to 126. Ed m icott Peabody beat Ward in state totals, while Kenedy tallied 37. Trybulski won the treasurer race with 887 locally. Carlisle cast 180 votes with Peabody over Ward and O'Connor over Furcolo. Overall 1617 votes cast, higher than 1958 and 1956.
Emergency crews kept vigilant through the storm with nearly 12 hours before peak impact. Police and fire stations operated on standby, power outages were managed, a steeple jack lowered a monument pole, and a large tree toppled near the Antiquarian House causing temporary power loss. Crews from local light plants and Bartlett power company cleared debris, with 40 workers on duty. only one ambulance call occurred as Gov. Furcolo urged schools to close but Concord kept classes.
Concord town manager Theodore M. Nelson expects alterations and renovations of the Town House to be finished and departments moved in by October 1. The downstairs is completely remodeled with large office space modern heating acoustically treated walls and ceiling conference rooms and a new exit for the town manager’s office using the old police department door on Bedford Street.

The Concord Congregational Church opens Sunday Sept 18 with two worship services at 9:30 and 11 am and two church school sessions at 9:30 and 11 am. Rev. Robert H. Barber conducts both services. Robert B. Lortz leads church and school with Mrs Wilder Parks directing Christian Instruction. Senior Youth Fellowship features a panel discussion with Sta O-w-n Fay Thomas William Martha Ward Webster. Janet Brow will lead worship.

Concords public schools opened September 8 with 1993 students, up 139 from 1959. Growth is heavier in Ripley-Alcott than Thoreau-Willard, with expected construction in the east end next year. Space relief came from Concord-Carlisle High School and Emerson Junior High moves.
West Concord reports the Sunday school reopened at Our Lady Help of Christians Church with good attendance. Sisters from Rosé Hawthorne School will teach. Next Tuesday at 7 p.m. Christian education classes open for all high school boys and girls.

Concord area private schools Fenn Concord Academy Middlesex and Nashoba plan openings next week with higher expected enrollments than last year. Nashoba starts Tuesday as others begin in the coming days.

Concord church outlines two registration lines for fall enrollments and schedules. The 9 30 session hosts ungraded primary and middle grades plus six to nine. The 10 50 session covers younger ages kindergarten first and second grades and third to fifth grades. Parents urged to register before Sept 18. Church school opens Sept 25.
