Bodies Found in Lake Boon Identified as LaRocque Brothers
Nicholas La Rocque aged 52 and Joseph LaRocque 50 were found drowned near Whitmans Crossing on Lake Boon in four feet of water. Police and medical examiners ruled accidental drowning after an overturned boat was spotted by George Bolam. The two Hudson residents and shoemakers were weekend occupants of a cottage near the lake. both were married but separated from wives.

Kenneth Torrey Mace, the ninth stepson of Rev. David Tor, of Bedford, died in France on October 2 at age 29. A Bedford native, he moved from Byfield to attend Newbury public schools and Dummer Academy, excelled in athletics, and joined the Bedford Athletic Association. He enlisted in May, served in Co A, 108th Machine Gun Battalion, and requested frontline service, becoming a private in France. He was married twice, leaving a daughter from each marriage, and is survived by Lena Myrtle Hutton and Edna Bacon other siblings in service. He wrote of pride in America after reaching France.

Sudbury Congregational pastor Rev Claire G Davis died Oct 21 at his Crescent Street home in Cambridge after a two week pneumonia illness. Dean Birney of Boston University arranged care as nurses and physicians assisted, with opiates in the final days. He had earned a BA professorship and is survived by a wife Lila Mae a daughter his mother sister and brother. Funeral was held at the College Chapel with family from Ohio and the west attending.

Acton Centre Branch of the Red Cross hosted a social in a hall on Thursday. Mrs. A. P. Durkee and Mrs. John Holland won first prize. An auction of contributed articles including fruit vegetables fancy work pictures drew good prices. Refreshments were served. The total raised was 137 with 4.65 tax.
