First Communion Class Receives at Our Lady's West Concord

A total of 45 boys and girls from Our Lady Help of Christians Church received their first Holy Communion at the 8:30 a.m. mass led by Rev. Lewis F. Kearn. Altar boys James McMullen and Robert Steinmann assisted. Sisters of St. Joseph aided instruction. students include Karen Bangs, Christine Conner, Judith Haynes, Kathleen Sheehan, Sandra Walsh, Cheryl McCarthy, and many others.

Three Men Certified for Promotion at Massachusetts Reformatory

West Concord three local men have been certified by the civil service commission as eligible for promotion to supervising correction officer at the Massachusetts Reformatory. They are David J. Foley of 78 Laws Brook Road Robert J. Gault of 208 Elm Street and Ernest L. Vaillant of 242 Commonwealth Avenue. Vaillant has since moved to Springfield. The job pays 4020 dollars a year.

Family Devotion and Retreat Announced for Our Lady Help

Pastor Lewis F. Kearn of Our Lady Help of Christians Church announces a week long devotion and family retreat starting Sunday night at 7 45 o clock. Local folks tour bases with Air Force visitors

Concord and other area residents joined 86 New England Council and press members on a tour of bases hosted by the U S Air Force Cambridge Research Center on a Saturday. The itinerary included Camp Otis Falmouth Pratt & Whitney Hartford Westover Hanscom and Bedford with briefings by Lieut Harland Wand and Col William Adams.

Concord Man T J Hanley Dies At Home

Concord resident T J Hanley 82 died at his Belknap Street home after weeks of illness. A retired painting contractor he helped found Concord Council Knights of Columbus No 287 and belonged to Holy Name Society and Ancient Order of Hibernians. Survived by nephews including Patrolman James F Hanley funeral held at St Bernard s Church with high mass, burial at St Bernard s Cemetery.

Concord Officers Nab Army AWOL on Walden Street

Patrolman Ralph P. Thomas and Special Officer James Alexander picked up an AWOL soldier Monday evening on Walden street near Lake Walden. Identified as Donald Goodwin stationed at Camp Kilmer New Jersey he was turned over to the Bedford base.

Memorial Sunday Services At First Parish Meeting House

The annual Memorial Sunday services occur at 11 a.m. in the First Parish Meeting House on Sunday May 23. The parade forms at 10 45 a.m. on Monument Square greens. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Edward Daniels.

Cubs and Scouts to March in Concord Memorial Day Parade

Concord and West Concord Cubs and Boy Scouts will join a special section of the May 30 Memorial Day parade. Assembly near 2 15 PM at the State Armory with hopes for a band for the Scott division. Cubs may march Sleepy Hollow to St Bernard cemetery or return after a halt for final exercises. Bob Soderman named Scout parade chairman, aided by multiple troop and pack leaders.

Graduation set for Concord June 11 at Emerson playground

The Concord high school will hold its annual graduation on Saturday June 11. Principal John F Donovan reports 131 seniors in the class with five serving in the armed forces. Full details of the exercises will be announced later. The ceremony will be outdoors in front of the Emerson playground grandstands.

Theft of trailer reported in Concord by Peters

Concord police investigated a theft report from Edward W. Peters of Fitchburg claiming his trailer was stolen from by Heath's Bridge while he fished the Sudbury River. Peters reported the incident Sunday at 1 25 a m. and authorities were reviewing clues.

Pre School Clinic At Alcott Friday For Two Purposes

Concord Alcott School hosts a two day pre school clinic in the nurse's room from 9 30 to 11 o clock. Dr Randolph Piper will lead today and Dr William Barnes tomorrow.
