Maynard high school will play Hudson high school at Hudson on Wednesday May 22. The town notes list residents visiting relatives, local job changes, service in the army, school and church events, and local outings with many named individuals and streets in Maynard and nearby towns.
Lieut Frank Hubbard leaves for Fort Monroe and James B Wood returns from Norwich for summer. residents buy cars at Torrey Vialle and join housing and job updates. A brush fire near the golf links threatens A W Lees and Harness Shop Hill properties.
Playing without captain Leif Nash who was taken to Deaconess hospital for appendicitis surgery, Concord high school tennis opened its season Saturday afternoon and lost to Boston English 3 matches to 2.
An entertainment event in the Concord armory Thursday night under the American Red Cross chapter aims to raise funds for the second war fund drive. Edward F. Tritt will speak and a bayonet drill by the 304th Infantry Camp Devens unit under Lt Strurston will perform, plus war films.
Middlesex school nine clinched its sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon with a 2 to 1 win over Boston Latin. Austin pitched superbly as Middlesex scored both runs in the third on two Latin errors and a hit. Latin finally scored in the ninth but could not complete the rally.
The Middlesex school four oared crew defeated Tabor Academy Saturday afternoon on Bates Pond by three and a quarter lengths over a half mile. The race finished in smooth water with favorable conditions in two minutes 52 seconds. Middlesex oarsmen averaged about 1 pound heavier than Marion’s crew.
Miss Margaret Lothrop daughter of Mrs Daniel Lothrop has left Lealand Stanford University California to join the universitys women’s unit for civilian war relief work in Europe. The unit of 15 graduates specializes in economics social service and related fields and operates under the Red Cross.
Concord and Lincoln Granges joined by Weston Grange for a Tuesday night entertainment. An excellent supper was served at seven by the Lincoln Grange and greatly enjoyed by all attendees.
Post office records show an advertised letters list including Baules P B Ww, J Coulter, C Mortimer, George Newman, Harold Carney, Helen C Foster, Mrs Graces Houghton, Mrs Blanche E Langley, Miss Augusta Lamont, Mrs Alex Means, Mrs E W.
The barn housing Red Cross newspapers gathered over the past months will be open daily this week. Volunteers are invited to help sort and prepare the papers for sale, with the aim of faster work through many hands.
The system will place white bands on posts at fixed distances to mark car stops. Frequent current stops waste money and, in future, no stop will be at the post office, but at the bridge. The aim is to run cars on schedule rather than the present random operations.
Mrs. N. Samsel and her youngest son left Thursday for Schenectady to join Mr. Samsel who has held an important position there for months. Mrs. Chapaman, her mother, and sons Nicholas and Ralph stay until school vacation and will reside at Geo. Ham's.

Friday prayer and social at 730 on Waiting on Jehovah. Mothers day observed last Sunday with dedicated sermon and choir music aided by Mr Hathaway.
Concord Junction remembers Pvt. Henry J. Bergeron who died of wounds in France on April 14. Letters found in town recount his best health prior to death and reveal his wartime experiences in the trenches gas attacks and front-line duties as he expressed longing for action and hope for recovery.
A Red Cross food sale will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the local Red Cross rooms opening at 2 o'clock. Donations of food and other contributions are welcomed with the ladies in charge accepting items all day Friday to support the charitable event.
Concord Junction sent representatives to the Grand Chapter, O. H. E. last week in Boston. Attendees included Mrs J H Brown Mrs F R Connor and William Charles on Thursday and Mrs R C Whidden Mr and Mrs J D Brown on Friday.

A public Red Cross rally and patriotic meeting will be held in the lower town hall Bedford on Tuesday evening May 21 at 8 o clock under the Bedford branch A R C auspices. Speakers and music from Camp Dev ens and the New England division A R C are expected.
A military band from Camp Devens provided music for a concert and dance in the town hall Tuesday evening. The money raised was allocated to the camp fund and many residents enjoyed an unusually pleasant evening.
The Red Cross launches a drive for a 100 million war fund with an afternoon parade in Boston. More than 10 000 Red Cross workers and Metropolitan chapter members along with branches and auxiliaries are expected to participate.
An entertainment event at Bedford Union school will present stereopticon lantern views of the United States to benefit the Red Cross. The program takes place in the town hall at 8 o'clock Friday evening of this week.

Mrs P W Libby sprained ankle but improving. Miss Carrie Hunt operated on for a tumor at Concord hospital and is reported well. Memorial church invites Methodist church to union service May 26. offer accepted. Several forest fires reported recently with constant fire watch on Nobscot by Fred Stone. Leroy Hall and Ralph Eaton leave Sudbury high and Waltham high schools to work on the farm and plan to return to school in fall.
