Concord reports its annual rummage sale at the State Armory drew strong townwide support. Volunteers led by Mrs. Alexander Cameron and Mrs. Edward Warren organized sorting, pricing, and displays, enabling many items to sell for low prices while boosting the society’s fundraising fund.
The Concord Home Industries and Art Centre announce a public sale and exhibition starting Friday June 4, continuing daily through the month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with one weekly evening to be announced. Heavy items due May 28–29. small items due June 1–2. The Art Association and organizers warn they carry no financial responsibility for displayed goods. Committee: Mrs Henry Grooks chair, Mrs Louis Sohier, Miss and Mrs William Buttrick.
Peter Brooks will serve as an usher at the spring dinner dance hosted by Harvard students in Eliot hall. The event features dancing on the terrace overlooking the Charles River.
Fire damaged the Grapevine Cottage built before 1690 in Concord when sparks from a chimney ignited dry shingles. The blaze was controlled with no serious structural damage while the historic Ephraim Bull vine, rooted near the cottage, survived within about 25 feet of the flames. The home had been occupied by Mr. and Mrs. William R. Callahan and has historic ties to Ephraim Bull and horticultural history.
The Concord Board of Selectmen denied Aldred's petition for a Third Class Auto Dealer's License after a unanimous vote. They ordered cleanup of his junked trucks and autos, warned of possible prosecution for unlicensed junking, and noted his plan to sell fireworks before July Fourth.
The narrow curve at Church and Main streets in West Concord is being widened and improved with new curbing to enhance traffic flow and safety. The work, funded by the city, aims to reduce difficulty for vehicles navigating the bend and improve overall street conditions.
In 1821 William Whiting discussed defects of the public grammar school with Josiah Davis on Mary Street. Hon. Samuel Hoar helped form a private school funded by Hoar, Davis, Heywood and Whiting, totaling 2400 dollars for land and building. The Concord Academy opened in 1823 under Georgecomb then Josiah Barnes and successors.
Concord obituary for Dr William Herbert Prescott aged 76, longtime psychiatrist and former assistant superintendent at Boston City Hospital. Funeral held Saturday at Forest Hills Crematory Walk Hill Street. Born in Concord, he graduated from Harvard in 1936 and was brother of the late Charles W Prescott.
The Young Republican Club met in the Girl Scout House in Concord. Four men formed two teams debating transferring the Massachusetts State Prison from Charlestown to Concord. The vote was deadlocked, then the presiding officer cast the deciding vote for the Affirmative, Eric Smith and Arthur Park winning.
In Concord three youths aged from the Lyman School were brought to court after sacking the Harvey Wheeler home in Lexington causing damage estimated in the thousands. Judge Wilson committed them to Shirley School until credited with 4500 points, with 480 points monthly for good behavior.
Concord Mrs T Grafton Abbott state consultant in parent education will speak at an open Mothers Club meeting at the Manse on Walden street Monday evening May 17 at eight o clock. The club welcomes all interest in the community noting her authority on a subject parents should follow. Abbott travels statewide, organizes lay leadership, directs a 380 women annual parent education course, and runs the Family Information Center at Jordan Marsh while directing Wheelock courses. She is mother of five and speaks from experience and is considered forceful and entertaining.
As we go to press it is definitely established there have been no transfers of State's Prison offenders to the Massachusetts State Reformatory in large or small numbers. The Concord Enterprise will announce the fact when transfers are inaugurated.
Concord mourns Patrick Hanlon born March 17 1860 in County Cork Ireland a longtime resident and former Main street estate worker. Survived by wife Julia Sullivan sons Joseph and Daniel and daughter Mary with grandson James Hanlon. Two sons Thoth and Joseph died in World War I after being wounded and gassed.
Mr and Mrs Philip A Wilson of Maynard welcome their first son born at Emerson hospital on Tuesday afternoon. The boy arrives as Judge Howard A Wilson of Maynard, presiding at the Concord District Court, enjoys congratulations from friends in both towns.
Mr and Mrs Whitney S Smith receive congratulations on the birth of their son Peter Whitney Smith born this morning at Emerson hospital. Both mother and child are reported in good health as we go to press.

The Concord street Frolic returns on Saturday June 6 from 2 to 12 with strong volunteer effort reported. Organizers praise hard work by committees and expect high turnout as in prior year, noting sustained community enthusiasm and sponsorship by local groups.
