An amusements page notes David Wan, President Emeritus of Stanford University, will attend the Concord Play-Frolic on June 65. The event promises readings and entertainment as residents discuss local lore and civic pride while a nod is given to prominent figures and past enterprise moments.
The executive committee outlines plans for the Pla. Frolic edition with many new and exciting features. The event will include a Street Dance Bursting Booth Beanoe and Turtle Game, a Milk Botster Pot Table Tid Winx Tub Tennig and other attractions. The writers promise a spectacular show with music, booths, and entertaining acts expected to draw a large crowd and surpass last year’s success.
The Concord Enterprise announces an unprecedented rise in newsstand sales and voluntary copies. The editors note a wide cross section of town supports the paper and express hope readers will subscribe after distributing a free issue to show improvements over the past ten weeks. Samuel G. The Concord Enterprise lists weekly events from May 21 to May 28. Activities include church sale at Trinity Church Aid Society, baseball games featuring West Concord Cardinals and Concord High, May Day at Concord Academy, Peter Bulkeley Play Day, and a High School concert at the auditorium.
The article profiles a Concord residence by Air-Conditioned Homes Inc with H Whittemore Brown as president. Architect Ernest A Sterling designed the New England Colonial style house featuring a semi circular flag stone entrance arches a Rumpus Room over the garage and energy efficient concrete pile foundation. Edward J. Johnson of Concord announces plans for a thoroughly modern food store built on quality and service. He will hire Allen Murray, bring in only experienced clerks, offer prompt phone orders and delivery, and feature new sanitary metal shelving and a renovated interior.
A severe lightning bolt struck a Municipal Light transformer on Lowell road causing fires and melted wiring. Homes of Baggesen, Mekklesen, and Reid reported damage to fixtures and telephones. The event disrupted traffic lights and left about forty phones out of service as Everett Pierce noted five hours of extra work for the light department.

Concord captain W Bruce Pirnie of the United States Army will lecture and demonstrate fly and bait casting with films of Newfoundland salmon and Florida sailfish. The event, two weeks hence on June 3 at 8 p.m., at the Veterans Building Walden Street, supports Troop 83 Sachem Council and funds for eleven youths’ National Jamboree trip in Washington June 30 to July 9. Henry Harmon heads a committee including Ralph Gerow Fred Boyd Charles Voight Edward Belcher.
The King's Daughters of the First Parish met on Tuesday for their final meeting of the season at Mrs. Charles G. Edgarton's home with Mrs. Clarence Bodfish and Mrs. Edgarton attending. They discussed Fruit and Flower Mission activities in Boston and donations of fruit to the sick. Flowers may be left Monday afternoons at the Annex of the Colonial Inn.
Mrs Annie M Leighton of West Concord died at 75 Commonwealth Ave West Concord at 2 45 pm Saturday May 16 Funeral services were held at West Concord Union Church May 18 Burial was from her son Morton J Leightons home She is survived by two daughters Ruth M and Mary and three sons Frank C Morton J and Chester with many grandchildren She was born in Gays River Nova Scotia and survived by a brother sued ton S Cook and a sister Mrs John G Moore of Hartford Conn She was widow of James F Leighton who died in 1911 She belonged to West Concord Union ChurchHer funeral drew many friends and flowers.
Mrs George F Knowles whose final resting place is in Sleepy Ho Cemetery rests with her late husband Deacon George F Knowles who died in 1915. The Knowles were founders of Union Church in West Concord. Mrs Knowles died April 14 and had lived in Honolulu with daughter Mrs Grave M Bartlett.
Mr. Brown, proprietor of the A. & P. store, will not lower the awning rain or shine for some time. The delay is to allow the birds nesting there to raise their brood.
The Elks host the annual banquet for the 45 tournament champions tonight at Elks Hall. The Elkss will be guests of the K of C and the AOH with Joseph Dee as committee chairman assisted by David Carey AOH and Patrick Smith K of C.
