The town of Concord bids farewell to John C. Friend and recalls his courteous bearing and cordial greetings. Residents express affection for the longtime figure and hope he enjoys life at his new home while returning to Concord often.
Members of the Teachers Club presented Zona Gale's The Neighbors at a Concord Parent Teacher Association meeting in Raton Hall Tuesday evening. Lodge Thordenkjol S of N of Con cord plans Independence Day activities in Carlisle Center with outdoor sports and Chelmsford Band music in the afternoon and dancing in the evening featuring the Mystic Orchestra under Witakise. Reunion attendees Mac Reilly Winslow Damon and Alexandra Mac Kalbern Jr. revisited Cambridge last week and renewed WWI ties with old comrades.

The 19th annual meeting of the Assabet Institution For Savings officers was held at the bank. On May 1, 1923 assets reached 1 241 275 76 and deposits 1 182 740 15, a net gain of 275 116 19 for the year. Five year deposits net gain totaled 782 637 30. The bank organized in May 1904. Original incorporators six remain. Officers elected for terms. Pres Charles H. Persons. VPs O B S Fowler and W B Case. Clerk Howard A Wilson. trustees named for two and three year terms.
The annual meeting of the North Middlesex district Women s Home Missionary Alliance and Foreign Missionary Societies was held Tuesday at the Congregational Church with morning and afternoon sessions. Delegates from Fitchburg to Concord attended. Devotional services opened the morning, with talks by Miss Esther Kokkinen of Quincy on Our Finnish Neighbors and Mrs Om Evans on Home Missions in rural areas. Helen Calder spoke in the afternoon after a world tour, and Miss Sarah E Snell recounted Smyrna disaster experiences. The program featured Young People s Activities by Mrs C A Lesure and Mrs Gail Cleland, plus an intercession service led by Mrs J L Cross. A reception and noon dinner honored guests, and entertainment by the Willls-Balcom Trio closed the event.
The annual meeting of the Woman's Club at Masonic Hall Tuesday afternoon drew a large crowd. Miss Lillian Childs reported a thriving year in membership and interest, with a basketry exhibit by class students under Miss Florence McHugh. Childs was re-elected president, with Mrs. Barbara Miller as vice president and Miss Mabel Bishop as another officer.
The Ladies Auxiliary A O H marked its anniversary with ceremonies at Odd Fellows Hall on Tuesday evening. A supper featured roast chicken, crab salad, olives, tomatoes, celery, squash, pickles, ice cream, cake and coffee catered by Edward Ledgard. An entertainment followed with vocal solos, a reading, violin solo and a vocal duet. A committee led by Mrs Mary Cook oversaw arrangements.
Framingham beat Maynard Town Team 4 to 0 at Framingham Tuesday evening. Maynard’s battery was Morrill and Morgan with T Marsden 1b and others in the field. Framingham featured several well known college stars in the lineup.
At the annual meeting held Thursday at the Congregational church the Ladies Benevolent Society elected officers Mrs Howard Case as president Mrs O S Fowler as vice president Mrs Edna Peppard as secretary and Mrs Robert Archer as treasurer A supper followed the meeting Guests included Mr and Mrs Peter Lesage and Mr and Mrs Albert Kopf of Pittsfield visiting Mr and Mrs Frank Prue.
