Concord Board of Trade heard a discussion on town appropriations during a Monday night meeting at the Howard Johnson Restaurant. Attendance was under 50 after supper, with several named guests and new members voted in, and the group announced its official membership in the U S Chamber of Commerce.
West Concord and Central units answered Box 35 for a fire at Howard Johnsons Monday afternoon. Damage was confined to the incinerator and marked the 18th alarm for Concord firemen this year.
Concord D A R chapter will hold a meeting Saturday March 4 at 2 45 at the Chapter House Lexington Road. Regent Mrs Howard G Simonds of Billerica will preside. Mrs Caebus Wheeler of Concord will read a paper on Concords old homes and Mrs John H Lord of Bedford will chair the hostesses for the social hour.

George T. Pope 63 of Old Marlboro road died at home Tuesday evening after a long illness. He and his wife Mabel M. Tracy observed their 41st wedding anniversary last December. He leaves two sons and a daughter. Services set for Friday at 2 p.m. at MacRae Funeral Home Concord with burial in Maplewood Cemetery. He was a former Elks member and retired in recent years.
Concord Grange of Patrons of Husbandry announces its regular meeting on Tuesday night March 7 at 8 oclock at Peter Bulkeley School. Mrs Alice OBrien master presides and each officer will present an entertainment act. Refreshments are planned by Mrs Rose DiCicco.
Concord reports the annual Red Cross drive has started with solicitors canvassing since last Monday. Fund chairman Frederick H. Lovejoy notes strong local support toward the $13,950 goal, with $7,000 for the local chapter and $6,950 for the national organization. The national goal stands at 67 million with 35 million kept locally and 32 million nationwide. About 10 million is slated for the national blood program.

Edward W. Sheehan won a three year term on the Concord board of selectmen, defeating George A. Bauer. Franklin R. Johnson beat James W. Powers for a two year term. George S. Lawton topped John B. Buttrick for the municipal light board. Gerald H. Finan lost to Charles F. Myette for free warden. Donald M R Smith was re elected to the board of public welfare over Helen Shaw. Total voters 2 044 of 4 306.
The Citizens School Facts Committee will set up two information booths on Saturday March 4 from 9 a m to 4 p m. One booth will be at the models 5 Nice cs on Commonwealth avenue West Concord and the other at the Paint Pot on the Mill Dam. The committee will provide factual details about the proposed school building program.
