The Talent Night event at the Concord Rotary center features a program of music and performances hosted Friday night. Participants include students and performers from MIT Tufts Harvard and other institutions with a multinational roster of acts.
Firefighters were summoned Monday to a fire at W. A. Sudbury, assisting the department. In the afternoon another alarm brought crews to John Wind Street where year men answered the call.
Concord chapter launches its annual Red Cross fund drive on Monday with more than 300 volunteers from Concord Lincoln Acton and Roxborough planning to canvass door to door for memberships. Local goals total 13950 with 6950 for the National drive and 7000 to be used locally for blood safety and relief programs.
The Concord Finance Committee recommends the town vote for 742000 to fund two new elementary schools in Concord and West Concord. The loan would extend 20 years and add roughly 3.45 to the 1951 tax rate if approved.
The Concord Board of Trade will hold its monthly meeting Monday night at Howard Johnson's Route 2. Supper at 6 45, presided by President Charles W Allen. Julian W Ballou chairs the finance committee and other committee members attend to discuss articles in the annual town warrant for the March 6 meeting.
Concord District Court on Tuesday found Simms Jr. guilty of driving to endanger in the death of 71 year old Mrs Emily Smith. The 17 year old high school student was fined $100 by Judge Pierre Northrup. Police Chief Ryan and Patrolman Kelley prosecuted. A manslaughter complaint was previously dismissed.
Regular meeting of the Concord Lodge Sons of Italy is set for next Wednesday March 1 at 8 o clock in Elks upper hall. Venerable Frank J Mascariello will preside and a report on entering a float in the April 19 parade at Concord is expected.
The Concord School Committee urges a new elementary school on the Hugh Cargill site citing current enrollment in Concord Center and future needs. It argues against crowding the Peter Bulkeley site due to safety, design, site size, and flexibility considerations for future conditions.
An impartial committee and local troops select nine Scouts as Concord Lincoln West Concord foresees delegates to the Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge this summer. The group includes Carl Lambert Frederick Oliver Jr Stanley Moszka Tuckerman Moss Joseph Davidson John O'Reilly Michael Bliss Carlo Forbes and Robert Tracey from Troop 27 Lincoln and other units.
District Boy Scout units meet at 8 pm at the local insurance exchange with Chairman Ethan A. Murphy presiding. Agenda includes plans for the March district jamboree national jamboree and re registration issues with reports on Scout Week activities from local units.
Mr and Mrs Benjamin L Benoit Jr of 233 Main announce the birth of their third child and second son David born February 20 at Emerson Hospital Concord. Mrs Natalie Blanchard is the former wife. Grandparents are Nathan Blanchard and Mrs Blanchard and Benjamin L Benoit Sr of Concord. Great grandmother is Mrs Ellen Delaney of Lowell.
Richard J. Loughlin of 25 Pleasant Street West Concord withdraws from the town election after winning the Citizens Caucus contest. He cites personal reasons and says he returns to private life and thanks supporters for their help.
Miss Dora Christine Hallberg of Cambridge married F Winchester Denio prominent Lincoln banker and vice president at St Anne's Episcopal church South Lincoln with Rev Morris R Robinson officiating. A luncheon followed at the future home. Sister Bernice Burnett served as matron of honor and John P Denio was best man.
East Lansing The Mich gan State College student break reduces profits for Harold Seyffert whose drug store lowers prices. He sells coffee for three cents during exams because students need it.
Joseph Zdanowicz a Polish descent caretaker living alone near Cambridge Turnpike was found dead Tuesday morning after Bert P. Woodlock unable to enter his home and Concord police forced an entrance. Rev Michael Burke administered last rites and Dr O Lawrence Clark viewed the body before removal to Joseph Dee and Son funeral home.
Concord residents win major prizes at the parish penny sale hosted by St. Bernard's last Friday night. Arthur Maguin Sr. wins a refrigerator. Jack Russo of Maynard an washing machine. Joanne McGloin a electric ironer. Thomas L McHugh a vacuum. Nellie Broderick a mix master. Frances Wineberg a pressure cooker. Leon Moreau Jr. an electric toaster. Charles W Dee a electric hair drier.
The Concord town election set for next Monday February 27 features six contests for school committee selectmen and other posts. Polls run noon to 7 30 with Precinct 1 at Hunt Memorial Gymnasium Precinct 2 at Harvey Wheeler School and Precinct 3 at the Veterans Building. Incumbents face challengers in several races including school committee members Francis L Coolidge and John B Finigan for a three seat term, two selectmen races for two and three years, tree warden three year and municipal light board and board of public welfare posts.
Concord’s League of Women Voters hosts a candidates meeting at Wells A. Hall Me High School tonight at 8 o’clock. All contesting office candidates for next Monday’s annual election are invited to speak briefly and several will be presented. Delia Briggs Virginia Livetta and Patricia Smith lead the program.
Mrs Bertha White of 229 Main Street left recently for Florida to spend the rest of the winter with one of her two daughters.
