Elwood Sweet bought a new Ford touring car. Mrs T F Shaunnessy of Belmont, formerly of this town, visited friends here Wednesday. Miss Dorothy Lincoln of Dorchester is mentioned in the readable portion of this fragment.
Mrs R C Woodworth hosts Ter with F C Ring buying a Ford touring car. William Heeks returns from Brown University for summer break. Alice Messer of Cambridge visits grandfather William Chaplin in Main St. Margaret Marshall and Minnie of Waltham stay with Mr and Mrs John M Collins who attend the Long Island Training School anniversary and graduation. Laura Allen returns from Wellesley College for summer vacation.
Sixth graders spent Wednesday at White Pond on a motor trip arranged by Miss Richardson and Miss Rogers. They organized sports with prizes for winners and reported an ideal day with a thoroughly good time.
At the Concord Scout Council Court of Honor on June 16, examiners Goddard Dexter Lowery Rodday Todd presided as William Tolman and others earned merit badges. Scouts George Barker Francis L Coolidge Donald Wood Roland MacKenzie Karl Johanson John Ostberg and several others passed in first aid public health firemanship scholarship carpentry machinery automobiling swimming civics and related health and safety areas.

The real estate has sold but household goods are to be disposed of regardless of weather.
Multiple notices announce auction sales of standing grass on several Massachusetts farms. Listings include Timothy Kinneen in Lexington near the North Lexington R R Station with 45 acres, John McCarthy on Littleton Road West Acton around 50 acres, Mrs W R Jones near Concord Mill Brook Farm, Austin T White Kendal Green about 45 acres, and Mrs Waldo Wilson Carlisle with 75 acres. All sales specify cash terms, rain or shine, and storage options for hay in the farm barns.
Fred P. Nickles of North Road Carlisle Mass sells 50 acres standing grass and 4 acres standing oats to cut. Maynard merchants voted Friday to hold a Dollar Day on July 14 organized by the Business Men's association with P. J. Sullivan presiding. All live stores will offer dollar bargains or take a dollar off on high priced goods as shoppers find bargains across fabrics shoes dry goods furniture and more. The event aims to advertise Maynard as a quality business center drawing shoppers from nearby towns with the slogan It pays to buy in Maynard.
Police raided three River Street homes Sunday evening and seized 4% gallons of moonshine and five gallons of mash plus jugs at Julius Gabus and Peter Legicko’s residences while Boli Saw Gogolin’s home yielded nothing. Samples were sent to a state chemist for analysis and trial is expected at Concord court Saturday morning.
Allie Peterson and about a dozen Legionnaires hauled sleepers to Newtonfield Great Rd on Saturday for the Fourth of July bonfire. C C Drechsler supplied two mill trucks to move over 250 sleepers with a plan for a 600 sleeper pyre before the Fourth. Merchants and townspeople are urged to bring inflammable material to fuel the event, which will be lit shortly after midnight as a prelude to Legion field day.
Selectmen and park superintendent meet with architect William Barnes to review Crowe park grandstand plans funded by a 2090 appropriation. Construction to start once plans are approved by the committee and state officials. Finnish Temperance Societies festival set for Gardner with many Maynard attendees and A A Kanto competitors.
The school committee granted a room at Roosevelt school for a Jewish Hebrew school. The school opened Monday with 30 pupils and will teach Hebrew literature history and tradition. It is supported by local Jewish residents.
Maynard Grange holds a lawn party on Saturday afternoon and evening June 25 featuring a midway with novel attractions and a novelty auction. The organizing committee is led by William Hayward with Mrs Elizabeth Hodge Mrs Edward Reading Mrs W X Macurda Mrs Harris Mrs Adelaide Sims Albert Drechsler Harlan Cook and Harold Croft. William Brinley is recovering at home after surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Firemen plan a dawn party and install a new flagpole at the fire house. Mrs D. H. Hall and family vacation at Five Island, Me., returning Saturday.
Bedford fire crews battled two Sunday afternoon blazes. Ranger AA lost 15 to 8 to Maynard Junior Holy Name on Tackney field, with a return game set for next Sunday evening in Maynard. Bed ford vs Kimball BB game in Malden postponed due to visitor absence. George Peterson sparked Bedford in a 17 to 10 win over Boston Yankees on Page field.
