Aldrich 23 and Smith 15, sons of Carl G Aldrich of West Medford and Elmer A Smith of Somerville, died in an accidental lake drowning. Bodies recovered by state police divers, cause listed as accidental. One victim had lived in Concord, with family noting a Boston business background and a sister Mrs Horace H Chester.
Grange activities planned with Boxboro and Granges, Neigh t event on Tuesday June 26 at Wy Hall. An organization meeting will be held in Acton on July 10 at 8 o'clock with speaker Gardner High Priest National Grange and other groups assisting. Public invited.
June 20 to June 20 Joyce Kilmer held field day at Crowe with a July 4 event. The local Legion will hold its annual field day with cadets and children performing at 5 p. m. The Ac- Band will give a concert and food will be served with a food sale planned.
Concord June 20 A Mattapan contractor will begin sewerage trench work this week. He will bring two digging machines to start the excavation, digging about feet of trenches for the project. The contract includes the pumping station and seven other elements to complete the job.

Ralph Westby was elected captain of Concord High School baseball for next season after the 2 to 1 win over Framingham High. The team, now 10 and 5, scored 62 runs while allowing 41 and will award letters to 13 players including Westby, Tompkins, Kennedy, McCarthy, and Farrar. Frank J. Googus coached the squad.
Mrs Jesse Reynolds and Mrs Henry Capelle announce a sale of aprons fancy articles and home made candies at the Concord Junction Tasty Food Shop Main Street on Friday June 22 from 2 to 9 P M.
Andrew Duhamel and Francis X. Perrault of Marlboro were found guilty by Judge Prescott Keye in district court at Concord of illegal liquor transportation. Each sentenced to six months in the House of Correction and fined 500 dollars, with appeals and 200 dollar bonds for the next superior court sitting. Police arrested them after liquor was hidden in a barn following a car crash at Kelley’s Corner where the overturned vehicle dumped liquor.
A daughter was born to Mr and Mrs Roy McCormack at Emerson hospital in Concord. Mrs McCormack is the daughter of Mrs Mary McCarthy of this village. The Mission circle of the Congregational church plans a food sale with sandwiches and fruit punch in the vestry on Thursday afternoon June 21. Miss Mary Armstrong, formerly of the village and now of Brooklyn New York, visited this week with Mrs Christie and Mrs Glines on Main Street. Mrs Edward Davidson of Orilla Ontario is visiting Mr and Mrs Alexander Morison on Main Street.
Sunday visit to Dr and Mrs W B Currier by Mrs Bill G Kelley, son Stewart, Beulah Kelley of Derby Vermont and four Perkins Institute girls from Watertown. Beulah, a 1928 graduate hopeful, impressed with pianist and singers. Girls praised Lady Campbell of South Acton who supports the Institute. Mrs Samuel Hood of Nashua and Mrs William Smith were guests last week.
Sudbury High and Grammar schools held graduation exercises Thursday night in the Town hall. Seniors chose Always Aim High as their motto with blue and white class colors. Honors and mentions went to Robert D. Hunter and others, as diplomas, scholarships, and awards were presented amid performances by school choruses and the audience.
Concord High School baseball superstar Captain Johnson dominated Framingham with a one hit performance and 13 strikeouts. Johnson sparked a ninth inning rally with a leadoff single and steal, scoring on Beardsell to seal a 1 0 win as Petersen Tompkins Johnson powered the visitors.
West Concord holds dedicatory exercises for the Percy Gertrude Rideout Playground with a 5 pm parade from the West Concord Union Church led by Eagle Scout Gordon Robinson. Scouts from St Bridget’s Cadets Girls Corps and West Concord Boy and Girl Scouts, plus local leaders, will march to the playground where Edward F. Loughlin will turn over control to town departments. Percy Adams Rideout will present an 8 by 12 foot flag for playground use. A town meeting named the playground in memory of Rideout, a local athlete and Mass Institute of Technology graduate who was killed serving in 101st engineers. An Assabet Valley League game West Acton vs Nobscot Town follows the exercises. The committee includes Rev. Robert W. Walker and John H. Connorton.
West Concord residents Mr and Mrs Frederick J Taylor visit relatives in town. The Taylor and Walker families opened a summer home at Lake Badercock. Pomona picnic invites Grangers at Riverside Park Newton next Saturday. Commonwealth ave Neighborhood Club met at Mrs Fred Hewitt. Lawrence Shea, Concord High School graduate, received a Boston College diploma. Mr and Mrs Joseph Hallard daughter Mary of Wollaston visited Mrs Catherine Reilley.
June social notes include Arlene Hayward turning ten with a party in West Acton. Windsor Club outing at Silver Lake, N H marks farewell for Louise Turner who will teach in Taunton next year. West Acton Home team defeats Camp Devens 12 to 0 at Blanchard's Field. Mrs Colson visits Northampton after illness. Durkee family at Fort Pond camp for June. Esther Whittemore and daughter Phyllis away briefly.
Rev and Mrs Allan J Hall observed their 61st anniversary at the home of their son John in Sudbury. Married June 13 1867 in Henninger New Hampshire they have long been active in local churches and communities.
Miss Priscilla Wheeler wed Wen dell D. Mansfield in an outdoor June wedding on the Frank Wheeler estate at Nine Acre Corner. Rev. Benjamin Bulkeley officiated. Maid of honor Elizabeth R. Wheeler. best man George Taylor. The couple will take a motor trip after a reception with family and friends.
Concord clashed with Littleton on Emerson Playground in a high scoring game. Gregg led Concord with power including a triple while Peterson and Morrill contributed key hits, though Littleton secured three runs late to pull ahead. The score ended 7 to 3 after eight innings with Morris and Kennedy among top performers.
Concord Academy held a joyous graduation day with dainty gowns and flowers, featuring welcome by President Henry S. Thompson. Miss Aime Thorpe of Shady Hill School spoke, Prof. Samuel E. Morrison awarded the new American History prize to Elizabeth Holmes, and top scholars received debuts and diplomas.
The Woman's Golf Club bridge whist party at Maynard Country Club drew a large Concord crowd. Prizes: Mrs Edward Clahane first, Miss Anna Goulding second, Mrs Patrick Mullin consolation. men’s winner Phillip Wilson and runner up Charles Sheldor.
Graduation exercises for Concord High School featured a class of 67 graduates and postgraduates receiving diplomas. Warren B. Goddard presided as chairman of the school committee, Rev. Williams delivered the principal address, and the program included solos, duets, and instrumental performances by Albert Bertelson and the high school orchestra.

A large crowd of children attended the annual Children night at Maynard Grange held at Cooperative Hall Thursday. Recitations by Jean and Ann Tucker Barbara and Ralph Whitney Myrtle Smith Jennie Priest Florence Hastings Dorothy Nurnham. Musical numbers by Ruth Hull Edith Elson. A peanut hunt and other games aided the fund under Miss Frederica Wade and Mrs Adelaide Sims. Refreshments were served.
Sudbury reports a June 20 dinner hosted by Lord and Lady Astor at their town house in London. Dr Anthony Altman, a Navy lieutenant from Vince, attended with Miss Ruth Gerry of Sudbury and Miss G M Halloran among the guests.
Thursday marked the year’s peak with an official high of 87 degrees and a low of 63, observed by Fred A Tower of the U S Weather Bureau in Concord. Unofficial reports stretched to 90-plus, drawing the season’s largest weekday crowd to Walden Pond as schools finished private and public terms.
