Arnold Jr, Charles G. Loring Jr, and William Wadsworth.
Concord Parents League sponsors summer typewriting lessons for junior and senior high students. Sessions run Monday to Friday from June 29 to July 29, two one hour morning blocks 8:30 to 9:30 and 9:30 to 10:30. The Concord Finance Committee elected two new members to fill vacancies from resignations. Agnes E. Collins of 364 Main Street and Nicholas M. Delaney of 14 Upland Road, both in West Concord, join the board.
Miss Marion Gorham sixth grade teacher at Alcott School received the Valley Forge Classroom Teachers Medals from Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge for outstanding work to improve understanding of the American way of life. The award, a dogwood blossom fashioned medal, was presented with a citation by Supt. Robert S. Ireland at a special assembly.
The Concord Board of Appeals held a public hearing at 8 p.m. to act on petitions. Philip J. Kelley seeks to continue his premises as a taxi business with no anticipated neighborhood harm. Joseph A. Macone’s gravel removal permit was renewed with restrictions. Elizabeth Mattison Williams road trailer use was granted with restrictions. George F. Rohan was allowed to store Middlesex School shells but was denied using the rest of his premises for automobile parking and canoe livery.
Concord Police Chief Robert E. Kelley names Archibald H. Ferran and Charles M. Byron to the Massachusetts Citizens Safety Committee. The pair will meet Gov. Foster Furcolo at Lexington Diamond Junior High Wednesday at 8. Ferran is a former selectman. Byron is a former region commander.
Oe Re rill and Concord selectmen discuss a plan to relocate the Jenney station from its Thoreau street site. Newbury suggests rezoning behind the dairy plant to Residential C for 54-car parking. Dairy officials would move customer parking to the new site and lease it from the town. any new building must meet parking ratios if the current station is demolished.
Concord Captain Walter Beatley, the ancient mariner from Lexington Road, spoke to Lions Club members at Howard Johnsons and showed a film on the Constellation. T. Frederick Brown presented him. President Robert L. Carter presided. Plans for a June 28 installation at Wayside Inn Sudbury were announced with over 100 expected. George W. Wilkinson leads as vice president with Everett L. Broughton to be inducted president.

Concord Friday Town Manager Theodor M. Nelson opened bids for fuel oil and coal for the 1961-62 period. Whitney Coal & Oil Co won No 2 fuel and coal bids. No 5 fuel saw Pioneer Petroleum lowest at $2.959 per barrel while Union Oil topped at $3.304 per barrel. Quincy Oil Co was second low in No 5. Pioneer may secure No 5 bid. Whitney supplied all coal bids including high school bituminous and buckwheat varieties plus Veterans Building and old high school coal bids.
Concord Principal John F Donovan announces surprise awards at the annual graduation exercises held at Emerson Playground before 2,000 relatives and friends. The event drew a large crowd as students were honored with unexpected recognitions.
Residents including Florence Webster and Joseph T. Brown spoke at the Concord selectmen meeting objecting to the Patriots football team holding fall practices in town. Warren Brothers of Cambridge submitted two bids for stone grading and hot mix totaling 4735, plus a drainage extension and excavation bid of 3200, a combined 7735. Town meeting approved 6000, so public works may handle drainage and excavation. award pending.
Concord town reports Henry P. Kidder of Lowell Road elected chairman of the library committee to replace John Briggs whose six year term ended. Ruth Wheeler continues as secretary.
