More than 20 attendees including abuttors and local businessmen attended a public hearing called by selectmen on Thoreau Realty Company’s plan to store gasoline and other fluids underground at the corner of Thoreau and Belknap streets. Thoreau officials and two Jennings Manufacturing reps outlined the proposal replacing the current Jennings station. Parking traffic and station type were debated over a 75 minute session as abutters voiced concerns. the board will decide later.

Five residential permits are listed: DeStefano Inc on Norma Drive and Peter Spring Road lots 18 19 35 37A 37B each at 20000 dollars, and William R. Martin on Park Lane at 24500 dollars.

Boston Patriots plan to practice at Emerson playground in Concord this fall for September to December. The selectmen approved use of a portion near Stow and Everett streets from 1 p m to 2 45 p m on weekdays, pending recreation commission approval and with field restoration commitments by the team.
Second year of the P O N Y League begins Saturday with practice and registration at Emerson Playground at 10 a m. All boys who are Little League graduates are invited. Four teams will compete and the season starts July 4. Report rain or shine.
Alvin Clewis a department store porter in Dallas changed into work clothes to help pack clothing for shipment to Chilean earthquake victims. After finishing he found another worker had packed his spare clothes and sent them to Chile.
Minute-Man Association for Retarded Children holds a dance social Tuesday at the Trinitarian Congregational Church dining room. A box supper at 6:30 precedes a short business meeting and dancing led by Bob Treyz of Boxboree with square round and regular dances.
Three selectmen joined the opening ceremony at Tom's Food World on Lowell Road. The event, planned for June 15 at 9 55 p m, included the town manager, police and fire chiefs and other officials in the ribbon cutting. Present were selectmen Robert Sheehan John Ke Damon and John B Finigan.
The Colonial Inn dating to 1716 will expand to more than double its overnight guest capacity. The new wing extends 100 feet down Lowell road and returns toward the Country Store and inn garden. It adds banquet and dining space, air conditioning, and enhanced interiors. Construction should finish by early fall. Architect John Q. Adams and general contractor Casper J. Jennel of Concord are named.
A Boy Scout court of honor will be held Tuesday at 7 pm for Concord units at Thoreau School hosted by Troop 143. A Lexington scout band is invited. Troop 133 will conduct a candle ceremony and Post 133 will lead the flag salute. Bruce Bottomly of Post 131 speaks on Flag Day as awards are presented. the Order of the Arrow closes the event. All friends and parents are invited.
Concord High will celebrate 125 seniors Saturday evening with Principal John F Donovan announcing awards and Rev Lewis F Kearn delivering vocation rites. The program includes music by the high school band and Lilian M Monsen pianist, with George P Ridout and Frederick T Taylor presenting the class gift and junior class actions.
Town Manager Theodore M. Nelson opened bids from Warren Brothers Road Company in Cambridge for 5300 dollars, George Brox of Dracut for 5525, and Charles Construction Company of Watertown for 6000. Nelson awarded to Warren Brothers. work to begin in two to three weeks as sewer work proceeds between Main and Church streets.

Concord plans a Lions Club supper meeting next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Howard Johnson's with president Robert L. Carter presiding. Installation set for June 28 with District Gov Elec John McGrath officiating at Wayside Inn Sudbury. Ralph Thielen orchestra to entertain.
