In Boston on June 7 the Christian Science Board of Directors elected officers for the coming year. Edward L. Ripley of Brookline was named Treasurer and Ezra W. Palmer of Marshfield Clerk. Concord-Wight boys were graduated from the Fenn School last Saturday June 4 at the regular commencement in the common room. Dr. Alexander Forbes delivered the address with Mrs. Laurence K. Lunt introducing him. About twenty alumni attended and several diplomas with prizes were awarded to the graduates including Frederick R. Wulsin of Concord with honors Braley. Continued on Page three.
The Concord Enterprise lists weekly notices for June including church events Civic gatherings town meetings and sports. Entries urge notices by Tuesday each week and cover June 11 to 17 with picnics vaccines concerts baseball Legion activities and lodge meetings.
In June the Concord Academy marks its 16th anniversary under Miss Hisse G. Hobson. The academy is praised as a leading girls preparatory school in the state and a pioneer of modern educational methods. Continued on Page.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Clytie Perry Forbes 59 wife of John E. Forbes Concord Ice Co owner. She died June 6 after a sudden heart attack. Burial at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Survived by husband and four stepsons. Mrs Forbes active in Hawthorne Chapter OBE and local clubs.
Mrs. Hebert B. Hosmer and Dr. Henry A. Walcott headed a town hearing in Concord Town House Court Room last Tuesday evening. Dr Walcott outlined the Board of Health unanimous stance while Hosmer urged fiscal economy.
About 3100 people attended Concords Annual Street Frolic on Nashawtuc Road, hosted by the Concord Players last Saturday. Dancing pony rides and fortune telling drew more interest than games of chance and skill, with organizers praised for a well planned event. Edward Sheehan worked long hours assisting with setup and operations.
The Percy Brown House near the Middlesex Canal has disputed build dates. Percy W. Brown claims 1832 while William Whitney’s memoir cites buying land in 1831 and building earlier. Col. Whitney planted fifty maple trees along the river.
The James J Mansfeld Post 212 of the American Legion in Concord held an installation night with a concert. New post commander George A Landini led the ceremony joined by vice commander Ivan Petersen and other officers. About three hundred people attended, including families and friends, showing strong support for the incoming and outgoing leaders.
The Wrst Parish School held a year end awards event in the church. Attendance earned students awards books for perfect attendance. a large list names Janet Ackerman Charles Harwood Peter Harwood Albert Paine Edward Daniels Seabury Short Joyce Stafford David Anderson among the faithful attendees. Multiple pins signaled attendance and participation results with a long roll of recipients for each tier from first to eleventh.
Concord reports the annual pilgrimage of the British Naval and Military Veterans Association of Massachusetts will visit next Sunday afternoon to decorate monuments and grave sites of Revolutionary War British soldiers. The event includes a turnout from the Irish War Veterans Co H Infantry, The Legion and American Legion. Vicinity Council No 2 U S W meets that day and a luncheon will be served at the armory.
M J Towler a World War veteran died at his Main Street home in South Acton after a weeklong illness in his 38th year He was born and raised in Concord and enlisted March 9 1917 joining Company A 104th Infantry He served 18 months in France becoming the first US regular unit decorated by a foreign power He was discharged from the US Army April 28 and later served 12 years in the Army (Continued from Page 2).
The Concord Mothers Club held its last meeting at the Extension Office. Officers elected for next year include President Mrs Maxwell Lawrence Vice President Mrs Clarence Olsen Treasurer Mrs John in cone and Secretary Mrs Qacar Olsen. A summer canning program and demonstrations were announced with refreshments provided by a committee. A two alarm fire at Baker Avenue and Ms Street disrupted the town after the meeting.
Plans are set for the annual lawn party by the Ladies Union and Helping Hand Society of West Concord Union Church on Wednesday June 16 from 2 30 to 10 00 pm. A food candy ice cream pop corn hot dogs afternoon tea apron table grab table balloons and a doll carriage parade will entertain children. Supper is served at 6 30 followed by a band concert in the evening.
The Executive Board of the Womans' Club met last Monday at the home of Mrs. William C. Bilis on Sudbury Road to discuss club affairs.
