Concord Couple Wed in St John’s Episcopal Ceremony

Ruth Marion MacKenzie daughter of Mr and Mrs William N MacKenzie of Bridgeport married Arthur Richard Helsher son of Mr and Mrs Henry Helsher of Concord at St John’s Episcopal Church Concord. Rev Robert J Beatty officiated with a nuptial music program by Alvin C Breul. The bridal party included Ruth Heisner and Eleanor R MacKenzie as sisters of the bride and groom. The couple plans a home on Wechusett avenue Arlington after a wedding trip. Mrs MacKenzie is noted as a successful horsewoman and Bates College graduate. Helsher is a Bates College alumnus employed by John Hancock in Boston.

Mrs. Mary A. Green widow of Thomas A. Green celebrated her 86th birthday at her Bedford Street residence last Saturday. She was born in Burlington in 1863 of Revolutionary stock her great grandfather fought at Lexington in 1775. A Burlington native, she taught in Burlington and Carlisle schools and served as Carlisle Public Library librarian for 50 years before retiring. She has been a Cemetery Commission member since 1893 and remains active in town affairs.

Jack Larribee Wins Ladder Tournament at Concord

Concord Emerson Playground hosted a Ladder Tennis Tournament organized by Richard Appleby for the Concord Recreational Council. Twenty three players entered with Jack Larribee defeating the final opponents. Jacqueline Blanchard and Faith Maloney tied for second, Francis McPhil Lips took third. Appleby announced a future round robin with at least fifty players expected.

Concord Funeral for Cornelius Shea of Lincoln

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the late Bedford Road home in Lincoln for Cornelius Shea who died Saturday at a Waltham hospital after a short illness of pneumonia. A solemn high mass was read at St Bernard's in Concord at 9 am. Born in Lexington in 1889, he was a son of Michael and Dalley Shea and moved to Lincoln twelve years ago. He was known in Concord as a farmer and as a member of the Concord Bike Club. Surviving are his widow Catherine Norris Shea and two sons Michael and Cornelius R. Shea.

Beattie Leads State Police at Auburn Pistol Shoot

Concord Patrolman Sam Beattie represented the Concord State Police barracks at the Regional pistol shoot in Auburn Maine last Saturday. Beattie helped the Massachusetts team claim two of three matches and won six gold medals and three silvers plus the team silver. He placed high in timed fire rapid-fire and expert class matches and earned a trip to Camp Perry Ohio with teammate Corporal Wilfred Spross of the Northampton barracks. George Grady finished second and was named alternate. The strong showing suggests a full state team may compete next year.

Fire causes kitchen blaze at Olson home

Concord firemen responded to a blaze at the home of Clarence Olson on Hubbard Street early Tuesday afternoon. Olson, who was painting the floor with a flammable liquid when it exploded, suffered slight burns and was treated at Emerson Hospital before returning home. The kitchen furnishings were nearly destroyed and the walls and ceiling were charred. Damage was estimated at 500 dollars.

Andersons Rally to Beat Foundry in Inter-town League

In Emerson playground Monday night the Andersons rallied in the last two innings to defeat the Poundry 9 to 7. Firemen Battle Blaze on Adams Estate Land

Firefighters responded to a blaze on the Adams estate near Adams town, burning five acres of mostly hayland with some fallen timber. The fire was reported to have raged for hours before containment and caused damage to the property.
