Concord Rotary heard wartime returnee Rotary speaker Concord Herbert B. Hosmer address the 507th weekly meeting at Colonial Inn with William T. Magoon presiding and Hubert M. Wardwell presenting. Burleigh Pratt will lead August activities and officer notes listed Lester Whittemore as secretary and Frank as director.
Funeral services were held for Margaret Mayo 74 of Baker's Bridge road who died July 13 at home. Rev. Walter Quinlan led a high mass at St. Josephs Mission. Burial followed at St. Bernard's cemetery Concord. Surviving are three sons and several daughters, brothers, sisters, and 45 grandchildren with two great grandchildren.
The annual swimming classes at Lake Walden concluded with a well attended exhibition last Saturday. Pupils aged five to 17 demonstrated clear progress across all classes amid wartime hardships and transportation difficulties. About 500 students enrolled over five weeks from Concord and nearby areas.

A new baseball league organized in Concord includes five teams from Camp Prescott Camp Unicon Depot Herronville and Sleepy Hollow. First-half games run until August 2 with several early matchups and plans for two Emerson playground diamonds. Herronville leads with three straight wins including an 17 4 victory over Depot and Prescott 9 2 win.
A new blood donor office opens at 26 Main Street Concord Center on Mill Dam in the former Ralph A property. Appointments for trips to the Boston Red Cross Blood Plasma Center are possible and transportation can be arranged by calling Mrs. Thomas Flint. The office operates part of each day.
Joseph Dee returns to 13 Bedford Street after a week at Manchester by the Sea with friends. Rev. Mark Sullivan of St. Bernard's Church enjoys an equal vacation. The Ladies Union thanks volunteers and Miss A Laura Batt for hosting a recent food sale at 29 Church Street West Concord. The Brown family of Connecticut moves into Capt. John D. Sheehan’s home in Lexington Road as Philip Brown takes a defense job. Y P S Evangelical Free Church group meets at Geraldine An d evening. Rev Odland resumes preaching after Canada vacations. Emerson Hospital welcomes a daughter born July 8 to Mr and Mrs David Emerson Sr of Monument Street. Mrs Cochran and M Cochran of Concord involved in community notices amid vacation references.
A high mass of requiem was held Friday at St Bernard's for Joseph Fitzpatrick 11 of Roxbury drowned July 13 in the Charles River near Cottage Farm Bridge. Rev Walter Quinlan officiated burial was at St Bernard's cemetery. He is survived by mother Mrs Helen Fitzpatrick of Concord an older brother Seaman Thomas F Fitzpatrick now in the U S Navy at Newport and his late father Timothy J Fitzpatrick.
Mrs. Sarah Susabote Pierce, widow of Willard Chase Pierce, aged 95, quietly observed her 95th birthday at home on Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington last week. She was born in the town and is among the few remaining residents who personally named cases by the Asoothy Tase.ae itecary lights.
Concord CYO bottled up St Bridget's of Maynard 15 to 3 at Emerson Playground last Sunday. Randy Castor and Flynn led the winning side while Buscemi and Dumas starred for the losers. Umpire Hoe on leave from the Army assisted by Venti. Next Sunday Fr Sullivan and the Lincoln Mt Juniors clash at Lincoln Town Field at 3 o'clock.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Joseph guest on Kinsley road West Acton announce a daughter Norma Jean born July 8 to Byron Elvin Bristol and Mrs Gates of West Acton with Dr Paul P Gates noted. John Clarke is also mentioned in the notice among other births.
Concord and West Concord report Boy Scouts planning their annual trek to Camp Sachem in Antrim New Hampshire from August 1 to August. Morton R. Seavey, principal of Peter Bulkeley School, is listed as a member of the camp faculty for the summer program.
Mrs. Thomas J. Gannon of 30 Belknap Street is now employed at Emerson Hospital as a nurse. She is staying with her parents while her husband 7 Gannon serves in the U S Army Air Corps after recently going overseas.
In Concord two summer camps stage work crews of boys and girls under Rev. John Brigham at Fenn School and Camp Unicon. Eight boys and sixteen girls, ages 12 to 16, are guided by Brigham, a Concord native and First Parish Unitarian minister. Workers board a D Arrigo Brothers truck each morning for Nine Acre Corner where they weed and harvest crops, with meals and recreation provided until August 20.
Knights of Columbus from Boston Concord-Nise Auxiliary journeyed to the Boston plasma center last Thursday donating blood. Attendees included Grand Knight W. Currier and Recorder Charles B.E. Mara among others. another drive is planned for September at the state headquarters for servicemen and volunteers are urged to contact Grand Knight Carrier.
