A large turnout fills Rideout Playhouse and Concord streets for a town circus event and related activities. Local leaders discussed market changes, egg price concerns, and upcoming political happenings as residents planned ahead amid new civic projects.
Concord voters elect 8 Pilgrim resident Corbett as chairman succeeding Paul G. Counihan after eight years. Corbett has served on the town committee for four years and aided Kennedy campaigns. new officers include Winchester as executive vice chair and several precinct vice chairs. Advisory and member lists follow.
Concord notes closing exercises for West Concord pupils in the four week Red Cross swimming class. James Hayes and Miss Edna Jenney supervise progress from beginners to junior life saving. About 700 registered so far, with further four week sessions and a final demonstration day planned.
Concord selectmen schedule a Monday 7 30 p m meeting at the Town House chaired by Harold C Smith Robert E Sheehan may be away on vacation Town Manager Theodore M Nelson will return Monday and resume press conferences Tuesday at 11 a m
The Lions Club plans a summer cookout on Tuesday July 26 at 7 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence N. Blanchard on School Street Carlisle. The event is organized by P. P. and P. Z. C. Maxwell and JE Lawrence and his committee.
Prices 62 p.m. and 8 Pan, and tickets will be sold at the gate. All week, club members have been making a house to house campaign selling tickets under the direction of Selectman Robert E Sheehan and Peter Gray. Today is the last day folks may get tickets, at local stores, supermarkets or from club members.
Concord announces the formal dedication of the renovated St Bernard s Church on Tuesday at 10 o clock with a solemn mass presided by Richard Cardinal Cushing. The ceremony includes investiture of novices from the Sisters of the Holy Union serving the local Rose Hawthorne School. Rt Rev John J York to announce new Sunday mass times.
In Concord Mrs Ronald Brooks received a bronze Girl Scout statuette and a leather bound certificate of appreciation at a tea hosted by Mrs William Ward Sudbury Road. The recognition marked six years of leading Troop 18 GSA with Brooks to represent Girl Scouts at a national convention in St Louis and presently serving a second term as council president.
About 35 members of the Knights of Columbus enjoyed a cookout at Monument Hall behind the facility Tuesday evening led by Grand Knight Laurence Dwyer and his committee. Next Tuesday about 60 members and their children will attend Baseball Night at Fenway Park to see the Red Sox face the White Sox, with planning by Downey Hurstak McArdle and Dwyer. Installation is planned for September with a fishing trip possibly in August.
Concord merchants report high tourist demand for the 32 page Lexington Concord Battle Road booklet. The hour by hour history of April 19 1775 sold out 5 000 copies and a fresh 10 000 edition has been issued. The brown cover edition featured Old North Bridge in green but the new buff covers show the image in Colonial blue. The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the booklet now sold in local shops.
Concord workers begin laying asphalt on Highland Street with an An'Liston contractor. Work also starts soon on the Thor eau Street reconstruction as a Chapter 90 project. Othen town resurfacing is handled by P. W. D. employees.
Concord announces voter registration periods at the town clerk office daily through August 12. Two public sessions are planned at Harvey Wheeler School on August 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and August 12 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Final registration deadline before the September primary is August 12.
Concord Union summer services will be held at the Congregational Church on Sunday July 24. Rev. Robert H Barber, minister, will conduct the service and deliver the sermon with a focus on hope and guidance for the season.
Reading notes from the Enterprise describe an upcoming circus event in West Concord sponsored by the Lions Club with registration dates set for the activities. Other items include a continuing swimming program, playground classes, and Scouts preparing for a national encampment along with a new St. Bernard’s dedication.
A Lincoln mother Dorothy DiPietro, 34, and her four children Michree 7 Helen 3 and twins Diane and Dorothy 1 were hospitalized after a car rollover on Route 128 near Route 20 in Waltham. DiPietro suffered knee and eyebrow injuries. Michree received 19 stitches. Helen, an injured arm and scalp. the babies had scalp injuries.
Friday night streetmen meeting was routine. Gleason Public Library hours and a Grange barbecue at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Paresi home. Concord to honor its tank battalion Company D returning from Camp Drum New York with a 10 am Armory arrival and informal welcome. Dr Francis C McDonald leads a celebration with former commanders and local officials attending. includes film showing by Charles W Dee and refreshments. Also notes 1959 U S highway deaths and injuries reported by the Automobile Club.
New principal officers of Concord Red Cross Chapter were elected at the annual meeting at Red Cross Headquarters. Monday evening Charles S. Putnam named chairman Mrs Pliny Jewell vice chair man William O Apthrop treasurer and Mrs Horatio W Bacon secretary.
A film titled "Taviaibte Enemy" will be shown at Emerson Hospital during the regular monthly meeting of a medical staff formed committee. The event is hosted with the courtesy of Frea son radiologist and Reg. ion 1 civil defense mobilization. Mr. Oleson of West Concord is noted. Interested citizens are welcome.
