Concord selectmen met Massachusetts Port Authority director Ephraim Brest to review Bedford Airport status amid land-taking questions. Officials from U S Air Force state and state engineers attended. Authorities deny any plan for a commercial base or Bedford air terminal. runway extensions target military safety only. Any major future changes will be discussed with the town.
The board of appeals scheduled a public hearing for August 24 in the Town House court room. Three petitions will be heard: Warren W. Wheeler and Frederick R. Wheeler seek continuation of a permit to remove graves and a change in operating hours. Mrs Idella V. White seeks a variance to construct a second dwelling at 3 Great Street. Robert W. McCue seeks a variance in area to allow a land division on Wheeler Road into two substandard lots.
Concord town manager Theodore M. Nelson signs a contract with William J Capone Corp Roslindale to reconstruct Thoreau street starting at Mail street and extending as funds allow. The Chapter 90 project is valued at over 29 000 dollars and may reach Everett street.

Police found Virginia V. Bradford, 21, of Brookline Street Cambridge, by Route 20 about 6 a.m. She was taken to Emerson Hospital in exhaustion after walking from Cambridge since Tuesday. Patrolmen Winkowski and Thomas investigated a two car crash at Pine and Main and an accident at Route 62 and Route 2.
Mr and Mrs Samuel Parisi of Maple Street hosted about 60 Carlisle Grange members and friends Saturday evening at a chicken barbecue replacing the July meeting.
Malden has been chosen to play tobacco tycoon Judd Raike in Warner Brothers film Parrish. The casting was announced by UPI and highlights Malden in a key villainous role in the Warner project.

A small crowd greeted Concord D tank battalion members returning from Camp Drum after two weeks of National Guard duty. Dr. Francis C. McDonald chaired the celebration as Patriots Day films were shown by Charles W. Dee. Capt. Raymond J. Garcia and his men expressed thanks before the group dispersed. Sudden traffic moves warn drivers per the Automobile Legal Association.
The Carlisle Lions held a well attended barbecue at the home of Mr and Mrs Lawrence N Blanchard on School Street Carlisle. Guests from West Concord Acton and Gulfport joined in the event with Vice President George W Wilkinson presiding. A major highlight was honoring P P Rothwell N MacRae visiting from Lake Worth Florida with a plaque and honorary life membership. A report on Friday’s circus showed a large sum raised for the clubs charities.
Concord Captain and Mrs Jack Folkins and their three children visit Mrs Folkins parents Mr and Mrs Maxwell Lawrence on Main Street They have lived in Sales Australia for two and a half years while he served in the Air Force and are to be transferred to Andrews Base Washington DC Chain store companies air conditioned 13 220 stores in 1959 at a cost of 115 800 000
Concord board of trustees announces immediate work to finish the west wing shell and add 27 adult medical and surgical beds by January 1961 with project cost around 160000. Long-range expansion is planned to meet growth from the 12 tower sores and to maintain Emerson’s friendly atmosphere.
Concord Dr and Mrs Charles L Ward Jr announce the birth of a son Dana on July 13 at Concord Hospital. Grandparents are Charles L Ward of Monument Street and Mrs Henry B McIntyre of Randolph Vermont.
Concord selectmen receive a letter from the assistant to the postmaster general about the Concord post office. The letter says the department cannot agree on traffic figures and could not justify a regional post office if the current building or area can be enlarged.
Concord board of selectmen held a public hearing at the Town House on proposed utility poles along Chestnut Street. Col. Thomas J. McGrath and Michael O Loughlin opposed the pole location during the session attended by Mr Wallis of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Co and Russell I Eldridge of the Concord Light Plant. No decision was reached.
Concord town officials including the clerk and the town accountant, plus the board of public works, are temporarily based in the new fire police station. The selectmen's office prepares for an upcoming European trip. Custodian Sabatino Finno and his wife take a six week vacation to Europe.
Concord members of the K of C and families rode two buses to Fenway Park to watch the White Sox trample the Red Sox 16 to 3. The visitors racked up 21 hits in the Tuesday night game.
