Concord notices report gasoline rationing registration set for July 9 to 11 at the Harvey Wheeler School and High School Cafeteria with vehicle registration required. Stevenson and Captain Raymond R. B. Emerson.
The club once named Lucky Seven 4-H Conservation Club met at Mrs. Howe’s home on July 1. The group began with the club pledge, the secretary called the roll, and members reported jars canned since the last meeting. Members voted to donate fifteen cents each to the Farley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The Concord Lions Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday evening July 14 at 6:14 at Wright's Tavern after dinner. President Rothwell N. MacRae will preside and announce the program. Installation of officers is expected to follow soon.
Mrs Selina Holt 81 of 9 Bancroft Street died Tuesday night at her daughter Mrs Ethel Ohlson home after a long illness. Widow of William Holt born in England she lived here 54 years. She was an Eastern Star member and Methodist. Survived by two sons Arthur and James Holt. Services Friday at 2 p.m. at the home with Rev Herbert F Fulton officiating burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Funeral under Fowler service.
Acton Garden Club met last Thursday at Mrs. Raymond Durkee’s Nagog Hill Road home. Inclement weather moved the box luncheon indoors. papers were read by Mrs. Robert Bon and Mrs. Joseph Fitzgibbons. The next meeting, August 6, will feature Mrs. Robert Walsh on flower shows and preparation. Sudbury gas rationing hours announced by Alan F. Flynn school superintendent. July 9 hours 8 am to 2 pm. July 10 and 11 hours 2 to 8 pm at the High School Building.
Ruth Brooks daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Brooks of Simon Willard Road married Henry S. Drinker Jr. of Merion Pa. at First Parish Unitarian with Rev Edward Perry Daniels officiating. Attendants included Mrs. Moore and Miss McKee among others. The couple will reside in Tenafly N J after a wedding trip.
In Concord Sunday afternoon at the Concord Country Club Dr Reginald Fulton Johnston defeated Henry B W Snelling two up to reach the final of the 1942 club championship. The other semi final features John B Buttrick vs Robert Goodale with the winner to face Johnston in a 36 hole finale. Foote defeats Snelling two up in the second division match.
The Concord Home for the Aged at 32 Walden Street celebrates its 56th anniversary this Tuesday. The institution is renowned for housing elderly residents and has counted notable former residents such as Ephraim Wales Bull, founder of the Concord Grape, among its residents.
Owing to difficulty assembling enough models the Concord Model Aircraft Exhibit scheduled for July 15 at the Concord Art Association on Lexington Road is postponed until Saturday August 1.
Concord Rotary Club met Thursday noon at the Colonial Inn with President Ervin Lynn Bumford presiding. Induction of officers led to cancellation of speaking and entertainment. Newly inducted officers include Floyd Verrill president William T. Magoon vice president Walter Avery secretary and Dr Norman C. Spencer treasurer.
The 125th anniversary of Henry David Thoreau will be observed in Concord on Saturday July 11 with Allen French as committee chair. Attendees from across the country are expected to attend a forenoon meeting followed by a 1 PM luncheon at the Colonial Inn and afternoon shrine visits to Walden Woods cairns and other historic sites. If rain occurs the event moves indoors to the DAR Chapter House.
The Concord Unit MWD C graduates its second Motor Transport class on June 26 with a dinner and program at Wright Tavern. Captain Macone and Lieut Horne lead the ceremonies while Pvt Marion Riley decorates and Pvt Doris Rapson seats guests with a class prophecy. The graduates receive diplomas and pins, with gifts for organizers and a concluding community singing session.
Mrs Gordon J Airth Wilson former West Concord resident died suddenly at her Keene New Hampshire home. She was 63 years old born October 28 1878 in Arbroath Scotland. She widow of Gordon Wilson a Re formatory Officer and lived with her grandson George Nelson of Keene. Survived by step daughter Etta Nelson of Palmer a granddaughter Lt Mary Nelson army nurse Fort Devens and nephew George Wilson Keene. Funeral at West Concord Union Church conducted by Rev Kenneth R Teed burial Woodlawn Acton.
Peter Severinsen of Concord died Saturday in a rest home. The retired carpenter, born in Norway, lived at 6 Laurel Street and died in his 81st year. Funeral was held Tuesday at his home, Rev. Wilfrid Herrick Bunker presiding, with burial in Sleepy Hollow cemetery. He survived by his wife Pauline and daughter Christina, both of Concord.
Six Concord men were inducted at Fort Devens after being assigned to Selective Service by draft board 54. The group includes Wilfred J. Robichaud Everett street Charles C. Crocker Main street Walter M. Bush Sudbury road John K Hannon Jr Central street James M Fairbanks Hubbard Street and Leon G Christian Cottage street. This brings Concord’s total to 85 inductees. A new round of screen examinations is planned for Thursday at the state armory with one or two more calls expected this month.
Recent local births at Emerson Hospital in Concord list new daughters and sons for multiple families. Entries include Cara Lynn for Elbert Agnew of 12 Lang Street, a daughter for Ola Bedford and Charles Magurn, a daughter, a July 4 daughter for Russell Wheeler and wife, a son for Josephine Rizzitano, a son for Warl Hicks of 17 Central Street, and two sons for Kendall Bass and John C Alden of 28 Riverside Avenue.
Marshmallows broasted and coffee served capped a country party with campfire songs and Victrola tunes. Mr Blodgett celebrated a birthday with cake and gifts as guests thanked Dr and Lawrence Lunt for organizing the happy evening.
The wedding of Diana Dole to Second Lieutenant Gerald Eugene Torgerson was held at First Parish Unitarian Church with family members and a small reception. The groom, of Silvertown, Oregon, will return to duty at Camp Lee Virginia and they plan to reside there after his transfer.
Concord residents report several couples observing anniversaries. F Garrity Jr and spouse marked their sixth anniversary in Concord where Garrity serves as town tax collector. Austin D MacRae Jr and Marion Laird celebrated their first anniversary in June, now living in Southbridge. John and Mrs Viitanen of Maynard marked their 18th with a dinner. Daniel A Kelley and Helen Neville observed their third anniversary at Barretts Mill Road. Charles B Mara and Mary Dalton recently marked their third anniversary with a son Charles Jr. Edmund Mezitt and Wally Bralil Mezitt celebrated their second anniversary in Weston. Vincent Vaccarello and Lillian Hansen Vaccarello observed their second anniversary in Acton.
Funeral services for Alexander Linewski 56 of 13 Summer Street were held at St Bridget's Church Lowell last Friday at 1015 am. A Polish War Veteran who served in 1918 he lived in town 25 years and retired from Assabet Mills. Burial followed in St Bridget's Cemetery under Twombly Funeral Service.
Sudbury residents and nearby towns joined the annual Field Day with a noon parade from Tighe Gas Station to Recreation Grounds. Albert E. Haynes led as marshal as floats from American Legion Memorial Congregational Church and Garden Club won prizes. Winners included L Sparrow Northboro and Harold Kizer Concord among others. evening dancing capped the event.
Draft officials in Goncord released the names of Maynard area youths selected for the July 2 Selective Service call to be inducted July 16. The list includes Eric Simons, John Costa Szczerzenia, James Vincent Sullivan, William Joyce, and others with addresses on Parker, McKinley, Hayes, Dartmouth, Garfield, Tremont, Main, Summer, Fairfield, Bates avenues and nearby streets.
The Weil-Child Conference met at the Public Nursing Association office. Sudbury Grange hosted a reception for Past Master Merton L. Haskell and his bride Mary Pernan, and Mrs Howard M. Goodnow of South Sudbury visits her brother in New York.
Frank S. Morton of Concord Road South Sudbury announces the engagement of his daughter Barbara Morton to Clifford Coolidge, son of Mr and Mrs George E Dunham of Framingham.

The funeral for Martha F. Smith was held at 2 PM Tuesday at Center Congregational Church. She died last Sunday in a Lincoln rest home after a long illness. A former Acton first grade teacher who retired in 1937, she was a descendant of Solomon Smith, a Minute Man. Survived by sister Hattie Smith who cared for her, and brothers Edwin P. Smith of Manchester, NH, and Charles Smith of Acton.
