Miss Virginia Ann Joslin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L. Joslin, is engaged to Dr. Edgar Wesley Tucker of New York. Miss Joslin, a Colby Junior College and Katharine Gibbs School graduate, and Dr. Tucker, a Cornell Vet who earned his D.V.M. in 1941, plan to wed. he practices with Dr. Alden H. Russell in Concord.
West Concord A Sea Scouts fundraiser will hold a benefit dance on Friday July 10 at 8 30 pm in the Ivey Wheeler school hall. Proceeds aid launching a boat for the newly organized Sea Scouts Mohawk No 38. Richard Tombeno and juvenile musicians provide music Winslow Damon chairs troop committee and Roger Conant is Skipper.
Concord Lions Club members led by President Rothwell N. MacRae joined Waltham Lions Club for a joint officer installation at Cedar Mansion after a catered dinner. Rev. Clint Carvell of Lawrence, newly elected district governor, officiated amid attendance from several nearby clubs. Concord plans its next meeting July 14 at Wright Tavern.
Mrs Irene Horan of Maynard was granted a divorce from John J. Horan on cruelty grounds by Judge Leggat of the Probate Court of Middlesex County. Marriage in Maynard produced three children who were entrusted to their mother. Attorney John E. Rice of Marlboro represented Mrs Horan in the uncontested case.
Mae E. Sanborn of West Acton petitions to be administratrix of Everett R. Sanborn estate dated January 31. The estate lists $1000 in real estate and $100 in personal property. A second son to Mr and Mrs Thomas J Mannion of Main Street South Acton named Edward after Uncle Edward Mannion, now serving overseas.
Concord police responding to an emergency at the South Bridge boathouse found a three month old left asleep in a car while parents rented a boat. Patrolman Finatt pried open the car window and the infant revived, awaiting the return of the parents.
The funeral for William Macey, 57, retired Maynard merchant, who died Saturday morning at his sister’s home, 447 Main Street, was held Monday from the residence. A high Mass of Requiem was at Our Lady Help of Christians church, burial in St. Bernard’s cemetery. Macey, a Harrisville Rhode Island native, had lived with his daughter the past year. He leaves a wife and several other children.
Concord residents learn the new library in Monument Hall operated by St Bernard's parish is now open. Rev Walter A Quinlan invites the public to visit as the library will be open every Tuesday and Friday evening from 7 30 to 9 30.
Funeral services for Mrs Raphaela Denaro 75 a former Concord resident who died Sunday at her daughter’s home in Somerville were held at Mrs Anita Mazzeo’s home 300 Main Street and St Bernard's Church. Burial was in St Bernard's Cemetery. She was Italian born lived in Concord twenty years then moved to Boston and Somerville three years ago. She is survived by three daughters including one in Charlestown and two sons John and Joseph of Concord along with several grandchildren.
The pupils of Miss Ruby M. Hamlin presented a piano recital Sunday at 7 30 p m in George Washington auditorium with performances including God Bless America and a series of student pieces. Winners of memory contest awards were announced for Christmas Bell and Red Cross contests with names listed among participants.
Maynard-Maynard plans a restrained Fourth with a statewide fireworks ban aside from caps. The lone town event is the Legion carnival at Crowe Park. Fewer residents plan annual vacations due to gasoline rationing and Ascabet Mills curtailing a week off. Tomorrow about 2400 mill workers will get extra pay for wage orders.
