Concord Junction reports John MacEachern filling in for John E. Reilly on vacation. Mr and Mrs Charles Beck left Saturday for Kennebunk Maine to spend the summer there.
Former Bedford resident William L. Jackson of Somerville, formerly of Bedford, married Lexington native Ruth Dudley Brigham last Wednesday. The ceremony took place at the Brigham homestead with Rev John Mills Wilson officiating.
Sunday services featured patriotic talks linked to the Fourth of July. Rev Ralph A Barker spoke on Our Anglo Saxon Heritage at Congregational Church, tracing an American historical arc. Rev Peter J Macinnes of Adams preached The Time is Fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is at Hand at Universalist Church, tying the message to wartime era.
On Saturday Nelson Willis rear ended a car driven by Mr Gale of Groton carrying three people to Stony Brook. Gale's car overturned with one woman sustaining a torn ligament. she was treated by Dr Mayell and cared for at Millans before returning home that evening.
William Davison aged 70 died at his Sudbury Center home after several weeks of illness. Though living in Sudbury only a few years, he was well liked. Funeral held Friday at the farm once owned by Rev A. J. Hall with services in Mooer’s Forks New York where he is buried. Survived by wife, son Ethan and his family, three sisters and two brothers.
Charles O. Parmenter has returned to his Colorado home, escorted by his wife’s niece, Mrs Fred Eaton. Myron Lawin visits his brother in Westminster accompanied by his granddaughter Miss Gertrude Jone.
One of the quietest Fourth of July celebrations in Concord with no planned events. A few fire crackers and small kiddie displays appeared on front lawns. The 26th Yankee Division from town held a game at the Y D Club on Huntington Ave to honor General Edwards.
Richard B. McSweeney, a leading Concord Council member and Knight of Columbus, is reappointed a District deputy by William Prout, with James T. Duane supervising the Concord district. McSweeney’s No. 11 district covers Marlboro Framingham Lexington and Southboro, while the Concord district includes Concord Maynard Leominster and Hudson.
A July Fourth golf event at Concord Country Club featured three contests. In the morning Murray Ballou and Morgan K. Smith tied handicap versus par at even. An afternoon approach and putting contest produced a four way tie among Arthur B. Brooks N White Richard J. Eaton and Morgan K. Smith, Brooks winning the playoff. The mixed foursome nine holes in the afternoon went to Miss M. D Brooks and Morgan K. Smith.
The Stoneham Scouts under Scoutmaster Clyde W. Carter canceled a planned overnight camp at Concord fair grounds. The group intended a three day canoe cruise upstream starting early tomorrow, but safety concerns due to icy conditions halted the outing.
J C Jensen dodged serious injury after being struck by a Ford driven by Oscar Olsen at the Main and Cottage intersection while heading home for lunch before night duty at the Reformatory. He received six stitches for a head wound, with bruises but no broken bones.
Auctioneer John A. Finigan of Concord announces sale of 20 late model automobiles from Vialle Motor Company on Walden Street Concord July 8 1921 at 2 PM. Cars include Oldsmobile Hudson Chevrolet Maxwell Ford Cadillac Dodge and Chandler with demand cash no reserve and full demonstrations. Also sale of 40 acres standing grass at John J Rowan Farm Draper Road Wayland July 9 1921 at 2 PM.
The Maynard Senior reception at Colonial hall Thursday showcased Nihil Citra Optima Nothing but the best in every detail from Japanese garden decor to the reception line and grand march led by class president Charles Lever and Miss Florence Maley The event featured Peacheys orchestra and a continuous dance crowd plus elaborate decorations by Lillian Hanninen Reino Keto John Johnson and Dorothy Hannon and class members with a twilight outing and graduation ceremonies following at Colonial hall.
Walter Alexander Hanna born July 16 1885 in Maynard died Monday at 7 am at his mother's home after a long illness. He worked in Boston as an undertaker for about fifteen years then returned to Maynard to work as a carpenter at Assabet Mill. He leaves his mother a son Walter Paine Hanna a sister Mrs Ralph Coleman of Andover and a wife. Funeral held Thursday at 2 pm at home officiated by Rev E N Atiyeh with A F and A M lodge bearers. burial in Glenwood Cemetery.
WV H Kingman and family and Lauren C Kingman and family are on a Fort Pond vacation. Miss Catherine Drysdale drove to Newport Rhode Island with Shirley friends for the holiday. Mr and Mrs R J Stevenson and son Allan spent Sunday and the holiday with Mr and Mrs Frank Waite at their Fort Pond cottage.
Mrs Joseph Alexander visited friends in Quincy on Tuesday. Mrs C L Dye and family moved from Central Street to the Whitcomb house on Winthrop Street, which they recently purchased. Miss Esther Berg left Wednesday for a three months visit with relatives in Stoughton Racine and Madison Wisconsin.
